After-Fukushima, a franco-japanese overview
It aims at understanding the political, social and especially legal consequences related to the Fukushima nuclear accident. Its goal consists in developing a global vision of these consequences by comparing how risk is being perceived both in Japan and in France at the occasion of this collaboration between French and Japanese researchers. What are the legal and social policies as regards nuclear power in France and in Japan ? Do both populations perceive differently the related risks? Does the Fukushima nuclear accident change mentalities ? What are the legal consequences of this accident and will they have any impact on international law and French law ? What could have been the legal consequences of such a drama in France ? Trying to answer these questions will enable us to better identify the current perception of nuclear risk both in France and in Japan. -
French History is seeking contributions, in French and English, for a special issue on "Animals in French History," edited by Christopher Pearson (Liverpool) and Peter Sahlins (UC Berkeley). Proposals for articles should bring together theory and original empirical research that draws on new ways of studying animals and animal-human relations in France since the Renaissance.

20th International Conference of Europeanists
In order to propose a session (for the 20th International Conference of Europeanists on the theme "Crisis and Contingency: States of (In)stability", that will take place in Amsterdam, on June 25-27 2013, it is called for papers that deal with the problematics of the EU immigration and asylum policy.We can wonder whether the measures that are adopted on immigration and asylum issues comply with international and European legal instruments of human rights protection, as interpreted by the ECJ and the European Court of Human Rights. The context is appropriate for such an analysisThe Lisbon Treaty consolidates the scope of such juridical instruments, and reinforces the control the ECJ develops on the EU norms pertaining to the Area of freedom, security, and justice, particularly the norms dealing with immigration and asylum matters. -

First Annual Workshop of the Research Programme "Corpses of mass violence"
This workshop addresses the first phase of the research programme “Corpses of mass violence and genocide”. In the context of mass violence and genocide, death is not the end of the executors’ work. After the abuses, the victims’ corpses are treated and manipulated in very specific ways, amounting in some cases to true social engineering; this phase is remarkably little documented in the existing research. This conference aims therefore to explore this phase of destruction, across a range of extreme situations including mass cremations, concealment, profanation, displacement or re-burials. Focused on the 20th century, the conference will seek to reevaluate the motivations, the ideological frameworks and the technical processes at work in the destruction of corpses, taking a comparative and instrumental perspective which should open to new research in mass violence and genocide studies. -

Globalization and its “sources”: towards a reflexive approach.
Thématique émergente des sciences humaines et sociales il y a encore une vingtaine d’années, la mondialisation est devenue une interrogation majeure de l'ensemble de leurs disciplines. Question à la fois récente et transversale, son étude a ainsi donné lieu à une pluralité d’approches, car ce sont des disciplines anciennement constituées qui en ont pris en charge l'analyse, chacune privilégiant ses méthodes, ses questionnements, ses niveaux de compréhension, etc. Économistes, sociologues, anthropologues ou historiens ont ainsi découpé « l'objet mondialisation » selon les catégories que leur fournissait l'histoire de leurs disciplines. Cette diffraction se complexifie, par ailleurs, si l'on met en regard différents champs scientifiques nationaux : l'analyse de la mondialisation y est non seulement menée par des disciplines aux traditions différentes, mais aussi en fonction des principes propres qui structurent chaque espace national. -

The question whether a new space of commercial regulation is emerging in Asia is generally addressed through the traditional notion of legal order or legal system. Thus, Chinese Law or Japanese Law on Arbitration, for example, is examined by underlining the specificities of such domestic law. Would it be possible to question the emergence of an Asian space of business law, not only from the exclusive standpoint of legal norms but from the standpoint of the actors themselves and their legal practices? -

4th International Congress on Construction History
Après Madrid (2003), Cambridge (2006), Cottbus (2009), Paris a été choisie pour accueillir le quatrième congrès international d'histoire de la construction. Trois écoles d'architecture (Paris-Malaquais, Paris-La Villette et Versailles) ainsi que le Conservatoire des arts et métiers pilotent cet évènement. L'histoire de la construction apparaît par définition hybride, associant aussi bien la conception que la réalisation, comme la préservation, la technique que la culture, et se trouve de fait interdisciplinaire. Y participent aussi bien des historiens de toutes disciplines (archéologues, juristes, économistes, historiens de l'art, etc.) que des praticiens (ingénieurs, architectes, entrepreneurs, artisans). Plus de 350 chercheurs, enseignants et praticiens, vont présenter le dernier état de leur recherche dans ce champ et en débattre sur quatre sites parisiens et versaillais. 6 conférences plénières seront délivrées par des personnalités reconnues par leurs pairs. A journey through the Genocide of Tutsi
Organized in Rwanda by the Interdisciplinary Genocide Studies Center. The Interdisciplinary Genocide Studies Center based in Kigali, Rwanda continues their two/three-week US/Rwanda exchange program in order to deepen students’, researchers’, and artists’ knowledge of the Rwandan genocide. In the last years, the program started in 2004 has enabled teachers and students from Rwanda, Burundi, Congo, Kenya, Uganda, Burkina Faso, Afghanistan, Singapore, Mexico, UK, France, Belgium, Spain, and the USA to develop narratives that engage questions of social justice, conflict resolution, and peace building. The program has involved theater artists, filmmakers, academicians, researches, and students from various disciplines and countries, whose practice engages questions of peace building. -

Complexity, Networks and Internet Regulation
Seminar of the ANR project on distributed architectures
Why is the Internet so difficult to regulate? In large part, its complexity and size have proved challenging, but there seems to be a lot of ignorance about how it really works. Large interconnected systems such as the Internet display a number of inherent architectural characteristics deeming them well-suited to the study of complex dynamic networks. The starting point of this talk is that it is perfectly possible to use various network science-based tools to explore the contentious issue of Internet regulation. Specifically, the Internet as a dynamic distributed system requires new challenges that rely on that same distributed nature in order to tackle them. -
