  Predication, armies, violence and weapons in Europe in the wars of religion (1560-1715)

  Prédication, armées, violence des armes dans l’Europe des guerres de religion (1560-1715)

  Nell’Europa delle guerre di religione, sovente la predicazione assume il ruolo di detonatore della violenza ed è utilizzata come risorsa retorica‘disciplinante’, nell’intento di mantenere coesi e motivati eserciti divenuti anch’essi terreno di missione. Ai ministri riformati e al clero cattolico viene demandato il compito di motivare religiosamente la guerra, trasmettere il necessario zelo ai combattenti e assicurarne l’ordine. Malgrado occasionali convergenze, le risposte elaborate dai contrapposti fronti confessionali paiono spesso divergere. L’incontro intende analizzare, in una prospettiva comparata, le modalità con cui l’esercizio della predicazione e la presenza di predicatori e cappellani nelle armate hanno alimentato le dinamiche delle guerre confessionali.

  One of the most significant aspects of recent historiographical work on war has been the attention paid to the cultural representations of conflict: the visual representation of war and its memory, language and rhetoric. This historiographical approach towards the subject of war has brought new attention to ways of representing war and the languages used to recount it. The First World War is usually seen as marking a new era; the unusual nature of the violence of this conflict, with the “disappearance of battle” and the mechanization of death, signalling the end of war as a place for generating men’s honour. But other moments in the history of western culture have seen the paradigm of war change in the accounts and narratives of contemporaries. Among these, the period of the Italian Wars of the sixteenth century, when the image of war transformed from a theatre of conflict between chivalric heroes to the anonymous encounters of armies.

  La justice populaire dans l’Europe du Sattelzeit, 1750-1870

  Approches historiographiques et perspectives de recherche

  L’Institut historique italo-allemand (Isig) et le CHDJ de l’université catholique de Louvain organiseront le 7 décembre 2012 à Trente (Italie) une journée d’étude sur « la justice populaire dans l’Europe du Sattelzeit (1750-1870). Approches historiographiques et perspectives de recherche ». La journée d’étude aura pour objectif de présenter un bilan historiographique et épistémologique des études menées sur la justice populaire européenne et de poser des jalons pour les recherches futures. Les chercheurs intéressés par la journée sont invités à adresser un résumé de leur intervention (max. 2500 caractères) de même qu’un court curriculum vitae aux organisateurs : Emilie Delivre (delivre@fbk.eu) et Emmanuel Berger emmanuel.berger@uclouvain.be. Les propositions pourront être formulées en français, allemand, italien ou anglais. La date limite de leur envoi est le 31 mars 2012.
