    Tourism in Indonesia

The beginning of the XXI century is characterized by the development of international tourism practices. This activity, that has deeply changed the relation to time and space in the western world since the XVIII century, is now conquering the expanding countries of Asia. This specific moment of adoption of an activity and its practices, give the opportunity to analyze the various aspects of its growth. Are we observing a phenomenon of transfers, mutations or creations? If the development of tourism inChina and India has been studied for several years, its development in Indonesia still requires an in-depth analysis. How is this new activity appropriated in the fourth most populous country in the world? What are the effects on the Indonesian society, whose distinctiveness comes from the diversity of its people, cultures, and religions, throughout its 17,000 islands, from Sumatra to Papua?

Objects of Memory, Memory of Objects

The Artworks as a Vehicle of the Past in the Middle Ages

This PhD student conference deals with the objects and their memory. Its principal aim is to reconsider the memorial objects in their context, as well as the memory of particual objects. In fact, some treasure pieces are said to have been owned or donated by a prestigious person (bishop, martyr or emperor) but these pieces or legends appear years after the death of this person. In this case, the object creates the memory, and the prestige of the institution which owns them. We will try to discuss, with these goals in mind, the ideas of memory and oblivion.

Performing Documentation in the Conservation of Contemporary Art

Contemporary art conservation requires a re-assessment of the distinction between the work and its re-configuration in documentation. Although documentation is crucial for the survival of many contemporary works of art, it is never neutral: all approaches, formats, media and systems have their own inherent affordances and blind spots and always transform what they document. Furthermore, in process-centered, technology-based or performative artworks in particular, we often can no longer make a sharp distinction between an original work and its subsequent documentation or replication: documentation is part of the work's very core.
