  Italians in the Congo and Italians from the Congo

  Images, writing, works of a global Italy (from 19th to the present day)

  Le colloque international qui se déroulera à Metz (France) du 16 au 18 octobre 2014 aura pour but de procéder à l'inventaire et à l'analyse des œuvres littéraires et cinématographiques évoquant le Congo - ou plus généralement l'Afrique centrale -, réalisées par des auteurs italiens, à partir du XIX^e siècle jusqu'à la fin des années 80. L'interférence entre productions culturelles et mouvances idéologiques, ainsi que la représentation, endogène ou exogène, de l'Italie au cours de la période sélectionnée, constituent les autres axes de recherche prioritairement définis. Parallèlement aux réflexions en cours consacrées à une Italie glocale, cette rencontre scientifique aura ainsi pour vocation d'interroger l'évolution de la relation Italie / Congo, considérée comme un prisme à travers lequel il est possible d'entrevoir plus largement les rapports entre le Belpaese et le monde extérieur.

  Translating plurilingualism. The translation of plurilingual texts in Italian literature

  Tradurre il plurilinguismo. La traduzione di testi plurilingui della letteratura italiana

  L’équipe CIRCE du LECEMO (Centre interdisciplinaire de recherche sur la culture des échanges), Sorbonne Nouvelle - Paris 3, se propose de faire le point sur les problèmes que soulève la traduction de textes plurilingues de la Littérature italienne, après un cycle de séminaires consacré aux divers aspects que revêt cette question – laquelle, présente dès les origines, croise au passage celle de la classique Questione della Lingua, jusqu’aux débats actuels sur l’écriture migrante ou « transnationale », ainsi que l’usage des avant-gardes européennes du XX^e siècle.

  The eccentric character in Romance language literary fictions in the 20th and 21st centuries

  En relation avec l'observatoire web international et pluridisciplinaire « Marcovaldo », ce colloque international sur le personnage farfelu dans les fictions littéraires de langues romanes (XXe-XXIe siècles) entend appréhender ce qu'il en est des contours de ce personnage, de la terminologie qui le caractérise, de ses filiations littéraires et de la typologie à laquelle il pourrait donner lieu. Le colloque se propose en outre d'interroger le lien du personnage farfelu aux limites (questions de la marginalité, de la transgression, y compris générique), sa relation à l'auteur et au lecteur (y a-t-il un effet-personnage farfelu ?), et plus largement au sujet dont il pourrait bien refléter si ce n'est la crise, du moins la part d'ombre ou de rêve.

  Culture in War

  Identity ideologies, nationalisms, conflicts: Europe 1870-1922

  The fifty years that go from the Franco-Prussian War to the end of the Great War and the advent of fascism in Italy (early and precursor totalitarian swing in post-war Europe) marks a new phase in representing the ideology of the ‘nation’ and the ‘nature of peoples’. The cultural processes which, between 18^th and 19^th centuries, had been used as consistent ideological repertoire for the political foundation of modern European nations, supported from the second half of the 19^th century, the rapid nationalistic involution of national politics, functional to colonial expansionism and to the ruling continental objectives, but also to withstand and repress internal social conflicts. A cultural and political transition from romantic patriotism to imperialistic nationalism (that which Muarizio Virali has concisely defined “nationalization of patriotism”), for which those that had generally been considered simple differences of character, customs, and social habits between the peoples of nations are transformed into irreconcilable contrasts: the national state is the emanation of a homogeneous people, of a race, and the unshakeable otherness of the foreigner reflects and consolidates this belief. Making use of the instruments provided by disciplines such as socio-psychology, social anthropology, biology, social Darwinism, and with the approximate simplifications of those like Gobineau, Chamberlain, Nordau, Langbehn etc., it is believed that the character of peoples may be defined and thus mark national identities within an all absorbing viewpoint.
