  Creation as resistance

  Readings, analyses and accounts of the Quebec student spring and other contemporary social movements through the prism of artistic activity

  De la Place Tahrir au Parc Émilie-Gamelin, de Tunis à Istanbul en passant par la Puerta del Sol et la Défense, se sont succédés des Printemps et des occupations qui ne se ressemblent pas. Une caractéristique commune semble pourtant émerger de ces différents mouvements sociaux : tous se sont accompagnés d’une impressionnante créativité artistique. Une fois passée la fièvre de l’événement et l’instant de l’action, que reste-t-il du souffle de la création ? L’après se travaillerait-il mieux à partir des œuvres ? Scientifique, social et culturel à la fois, le présent colloque international se situera à la jonction des pratiques et des savoirs, s’efforcera d’associer des chercheurs, des artistes et des militants.

  Between Theatre and Cinema: Intermediality and Aesthetic Renewal

  This panel seeks to explore the aesthetic and theoretical ties between cinematic and performance texts when a play is filmed. Proposals in French or in English on the following topics are welcomed: dialectical implications resulting from the filming of the stage; differences between what is commonly called the “film de théâtre” and its fictional or documentary homologues; interdisciplinary approaches generated by the broad range of relationships between film and theater.

  White, Empty, Silent in Medieval Artistic Creation

  Art-Hist sessions in Kalamazoo 2014

  In Spring 2014, Art-Hist will organize two sessions at Kalamazoo International Congress on Medieval Studies (8-11 May). Art-Hist sessions this year will deal with "White, Empty, Silent in Medieval Artistic Creation". The committee offered us two sessions: "I. Paleographical Aspects"; "II. From Sonorous White to Visual White: Silence and Its Representation". We are expecting proposals dealing with representation of silence in Medieval art and graphic practices. The deadline for the paper proposal is September 15^th.

  La Fondation Jean-Pierre Perreault et l’Institut du patrimoine de l’université du Québec à Montréal ont le plaisir de vous convier à trois journées d’étude sur la mémoire et la transmission des œuvres performatives et chorégraphiques contemporaines, les 2, 3 et 4 mai 2013, à la Cinémathèque québécoise. Une vingtaine de théoriciens et de professionnels, nationaux et internationaux, issus des deux disciplines artistiques, l’art de la performance et la danse contemporaine, se rencontreront dans la perspective de mettre en dialogue les conceptions et les pratiques de préservation et de transmission propres à ces domaines.
