  Combining scientific Expertise with Participation: the Challenge of the European Landscape Convention

  The adoption of the European Landscape Convention (ELC) in 2000 represents a major event in taking landscape into account at the European level. As of June 2013, 38 Council of Europe member states have ratified the Convention. By specifying that landscape is an essential component of the quality of life of Europeans, the Convention is, first and foremost, in line with a territorial dimension. Moreover, a strong foundation of the ELC lies in its specific definition of landscape, notably based on the notion of perception by populations. One of the scientists’ major concerns is therefore how to reconcile objective scientific approaches with the subjective aspect of citizens’ perception. After more than a decade of practice, the Conference will be an opportunity for scientists who have been working in line with the ELC to present the tools developed and to reflect on their tangible, measurable and observable effects.

  Nutrition and Food Production in the Congo Basin

  Nutrition is a universal human right. Population growth and a higher demand for food, together with a changing nutrition pattern, will put the environment, at global level, under a growing pressure in the coming decennia. This pressure will be very strong on regions with a high biodiversity due to the ever growing demand on arable land and an increasing demand for animal protein, which will negatively influence the global ecosystem, the global climate and the biodiversity. The aim of the conference is to highlight a number of topics dealing with nutrition, the demand for food and food production – past and future.

  Tackling sustainable habitat?

  Innovation in housing and the challenge of its actors and professions

  Le développement des écoquartiers et d’autres formes d’habitat durable (écobourgs et écovillages) devient l’un des éléments structurant des nouvelles politiques urbaines et de développement de l’habitat. Face au développement marquant d’un habitat se préoccupant des aspects environnementaux et économiques, parfois moins des aspects sociaux, des critiques de plus en plus fortes déplorent à la fois le manque d’approche systémique dans les projets et la « conception d’îlots écologiques ». Dès lors, il nous paraît opportun de nous interroger sur la manière dont les aspects sociaux et les aspects environnementaux sont articulés à travers les initiatives de ce genre.

  L’innovation en matière d’habitat durable à l’épreuve de ses acteurs et de ses métiers

Dès lors, il nous paraît opportun de nous interroger sur la manière dont les aspects sociaux et les aspects environnementaux sont articulés à travers les initiatives de ce genre. L’université d’été 2013 du CIFoP cherchera àdévelopper une analyse fouillée de ces initiatives, tant du point de vue des enjeux sociaux et environnementaux sous-jacents que du point de vue de la dynamique d’acteurs en présence.
