  Floors and ceilings, shutters and frames, doors and panelling in medieval and modern architecture

  This study day, organised by the Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage (IRPA-KIK), the University of Namur, the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) and the Royal Museums for Art and History (MRAH-KMKG), is part of the series of scientific meetings started by the research group AcanthuM (University of Namur) on the theme of construction finishings and fittings. The present meeting will focus on joinery elements in architecture from the Middle Ages and modern period.

Cette conférence est intitulée « Pureté et purification en Grèce ancienne : conceptions et pratiques ». La dernière journée est vouée à un atelier sur les normes rituelles grecques, une thématique connexe au cœur du projet CGRN (Collection of Greek Ritual Norms) en cours d'élaboration.

  Medieval copper, bronze and brass – Dinant-Namur 2014

  History, archaeology and archaeometry of the production of brass, bronze and other copper alloy objects in medieval Europe (12th-16th centuries)

  This symposium is organised in a town whose main medieval activity was focused on the metallurgy of copper and brass. Its aim is to present current knowledge of not only the medieval products, techniques, workshops and labour force, but also of the market and trade in these products. This symposium will present the research carried out in history and archaeology of materials and processes with, in some cases, the support of scientific studies.

  The Middle Ages: transitions, changes or continuities? Comparative approaches to the issues of periodisation

  À plusieurs reprises, Jacques Le Goff a défendu l’idée d’un « long Moyen Âge [...] dont tous les aspects se structurent en un système qui, pour l’essentiel, fonctionne du Bas-Empire romain à la révolution industrielle des XVIIIe-XIXe siècles ». Cette périodisation repose sur l’identification de « structures fondamentales » qui marquèrent l’Europe du IVe au XIXe siècle, tant du point de vue socio-économique que du point de vue culturel. Dans cette perspective doivent prioritairement être retenues l’organisation seigneuriale des rapports économiques et de domination sociale ainsi que la référence idéologique et intellectuelle essentielle que fut le christianisme durant la période envisagée (« Pour un autre Moyen Âge » (1977), réimpr. dans Un autre Moyen Âge, 1999, Paris, p. 16, 450).

  This study day, organised by the Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage (IRPA-KIK), the University of Namur, the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) and the Royal Museums for Art and History (MRAH-KMKG), is part of the series of scientific meetings started by the research group AcanthuM (University of Namur) on the theme of construction finishings and fittings. The present meeting will focus on joinery elements in architecture from the Middle Ages and modern period that contribute to the organization of the interior workings of a building and division of space through the layout of doorways and window openings, as well as playing a part in the interior decoration.
