Seminário de estudo sobre as circulações artísticas, sociais e culturais na Baixa Idade Média (sécs. XIII-XV)
O Seminário de estudo é organizado pelo grupo de investigação “Construir a História” em colaboração com o grupo de investigação “Imagens e textos medievais” e tem como objetivo debater os movimentos de pessoas, produtos e padrões culturais, artísticos e religiosos nos séculos entre XIII e XV tanto do ponto de vista histórico-religioso como artístico.

The Commentary Tradition on Thomas Aquinas's Summa Theologiae (15th-18th Century)
La Somme théologique est un des classiques de l’histoire de la théologie et de la philosophie. Au-delà de son énorme influence au Moyen Âge, la Somme a aussi marqué la théologie et la philosophie au début de l’époque moderne. Cela s’explique aussi par le fait que la Somme a remplacé les Sentences de Pierre Lombard comme le texte par lequel la théologie était enseignée dans les universités catholiques à partir de la fin du XVe et jusqu’au XVIIIe siècle. Ce remplacement s’est produit premièrement dans les studia dominicaines allemands dans la seconde moitié du XVe siècle et, au niveau universitaire, à Salamanque avec Francisco de Vitoria dans les années 1530. Dans quelques décennies, la Somme était adoptée comme le livre d’enseignement de la théologie dans toute l’Europe de la Contre-Réforme.

Environmental approaches of interactions between cities and forest supplies during the Middles Ages and the Early modern period. 12th International Conference on urban History, European Association for Urban History – Main Session M16
As places of consumption and production European medieval and early modern cities exerted a enormous pressure on neighbouring woodlands. Some historical studies have already discussed the way cities tried to impone their control on these lands emphasizing the diversity of needs which were fulfilled by forest exploitation (wood, timber, charcoal, grazing…). They often concluded that urban pressure resulted in an inexorable degradation of the forest cover. Indeed local woodlands and forests products could probably never meet the demand. In order to face shortage or, better, to prevent it, urban authorities attempted on one hand to extend their control on more and more distant forests and to attract interregional or « international » trade flows. On the other hand, they tried to regulate the local market so as to ensure access to several important needs regarding urban economy (charcoal, timber).

This international conference has a double aim: firstly to celebrate and reconstitute these 25 years of work and commitment in this area. Secondly, to open up debate and publicise the scientific results of the latest research project: “Analysis of policies and practices in the area of the use and abuse of drugs. Catholic universities in dialogue with political and social agents” which the centre has been coordinating for three years.

No ano em que se comemoram os 40 anos após a Revolução dos Cravos portuguesa (25 de abril de 1974), que iniciou a chamada “terceira onda de democratização” em todo o mundo e a transição para a democracia em Portugal (depois de 48 anos de ditadura), a Conferência Internacional “40 anos após o 25 de abril de 1974: a crise das democracias liberais” tem dois objetivos principais.

State and societal challenges in the Horn of Africa
The International Conference State and Societal Challenges in the Horn of Africa is one of the outcomes of the CEA-IUL Project entitled ‘’Monitorization of Conflicts in the Horn of Africa’’. The Project (PTDC/AFR/100460/2008) is financed by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), Ministry of Science and High Education. The project started on 4 January 2010 and finishes on 3 June 2013.

Le Congrès International « La Méditerranée et le Sud Ibérique l’époque médiévale : culture, identité et patrimoine. Siècles V-XV » aura lieu le 5 et 6 Décembre 2013, signalant les 1100 ans du pillage de Évora, ville du Alentejo, par le futur roi Ordoño II de León en 913. Le Congrès aura comme principal objectif de rassembler jeunes chercheurs et spécialistes, portugais et étrangers, de domaines si divers comme l’Archéologie, l’Histoire, la Littérature, l’Histoire des Arts, l’Anthropologie et autres dédiés à l’étude de la thématique du Sud Ibérique à l’époque médiévale. On cherche une analyse multidisciplinaire des relations de proximité et les affinités qui ont eu lieu à l’époque médiévale, entre des régions méridionales et l’espace méditerranéen ainsi que d’autres thématiques reliées à champs spécifiques de l’Art de l’Histoire économique, politique et sociale ou de la culture et mentalités du Sud Ibérique.

O espírito desta consulta é assumidamente interdisciplinar, procurando reunir especialistas – nomeadamente mas não exclusivamente – nas áreas da Saúde, Estudos do Desenvolvimento, Estudos Africanos, Sociologia, Ciência Política e Relações Internacionais.

Face to Face. The transcendence of the arts in China and beyond
Our goals for the conference are to raise awareness of the artistic exchange and mutual influences between the Han Chinese arts and the arts from different cultural backgrounds in China itself, as well as beyond its geographical and cultural boundaries. We also aim to go through the issues on the construction of artistic identity and the balance between permeability and hegemony, tradition and innovation, convenience and misinterpretation.

Espaço e ilusão. Teatros, arquitetura e património na Península Ibérica
O Simpósio internacional de arquitetura "Espaço e Ilusão. Teatros, arquitetura e património na Península Ibérica" pretende abrir um diálogo entre estudiosos e técnicos protagonistas de ambos os países, responsáveis pelo estudo desta temática e pelo projecto e execução de muitas das intervenções recentes em espaços teatrais. O impacto destas realizações na deslocação dos novos equipamentos dos centros (históricos) para novas centralidades comerciais, a recuperação de teatros e auditórios como factores de redefinição do tecido urbano, a importância de novas linguagens e de formas de interacção do público com os espaços, a influência das novas tecnologias nas soluções arquitetónicas e cenográficas, são alguns dos temas a abordar no Simpósio.

Os seminários organizados pelo CEsA – Centro de Estudos sobre África e do Desenvolvimento têm já uma tradição de duas décadas, desde que foi criada, em 1991-92, no ISEG – Instituto Superior de Economia e Gestão, a Pós-Graduação em Desenvolvimento e Cooperação Internacional, transformada em Mestrado no ano lectivo de 1993-94. Os Seminários têm constituído um meio privilegiado de acompanhamento da investigação desenvolvida nas áreas de estudo do Mestrado, tanto por investigadores nacionais como estrangeiros. Esta iniciativa ganhou ainda mais relevância com a criação, este ano lectivo de 2010-11, do programa de Doutoramento em Estudos de Desenvolvimento que o CEsA acolhe em conjunto com outras unidades de investigação do ISEG.

Academy as Community: English and American Studies in Portugal and Europe
34th APEAA Meeting
The tradition of English and American studies in Portugal has long been supported by the dynamics of academic associativism, in which APEAA’s peer network stands out, involving national and international institutions, and establishing continued interactions with research centres. At a time when political and cultural paradigms are on the verge of crisis and/or change, it is of the utmost importance to revisit the theoretical and pragmatic frameworks that sustain (and constrain) our research practices. Thus, this conference aims to provide a forum to discuss how Anglo-American scholarship, with its vocation for plurality and innovative interdisciplinary proposals, may progress. We also want to build strategies of cohesion among our peers in order to better disseminate our contribution to the interpretation and the fruition of meaning(s), valuing a plurality of cultural and aesthetic manifestations.

French-language literature and the challenge of globalisation
Le phénomène complexe de la mondialisation – du fait même de ses implications culturelles et identitaires, intéresse, interroge et met la littérature (toute littérature) à l’épreuve, et au défi de se (re)définir et de décliner des approches nouvelles de son rapport à l’espace, aux lieux et genres d’écriture. De ce fait, la littérature française contemporaine et les vastes littératures francophones ou allophones d’expression française s’avèrent, à maints égards, un miroir des apories et des paradoxes que le phénomène mondialisant fait subir à nos sociétés contemporaines et qui engendrent des ambiguïtés ou des échanges identitaires et interculturels des plus féconds, mais aussi des plus impromptus.

Poesia experimental. Materialidades e representações digitais
No âmbito do projecto PO.EX'70-80 (PTDC/CLE-LLI/098270/2008), procurou-se recolher, classificar e reproduzir, em formatos digitais, a poesia concreta, visual e sonora, a videopoesia, o happening e a literatura cibernética dos anos 1970 e 80 em Portugal. Este projecto apresenta ao público os resultados deste trabalho de preservação de uma herança literária que é fundamental para compreender as novas textualidades digitais. Agora apresenta-se e discutem-se os resultados do projecto: a nível teórico e científico, através de apresentações focadas nos processos de mediação na poesia contemporânea; a nível metodológico e técnico, disponibilizando uma taxonomia de conceitos para organizar e classificar as relações conceptuais da produção poética experimentalista. Será ainda uma oportunidade para celebrar o experimentalismo poético numa sessão de encerramento com performances de poesia sonora.

1st Annual Meeting Europe in the World
The meetings Europe in the world are the result of a partnership between the CEIS20, of the University of Coimbra, and the IHC of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Nova University of Lisbon (UNL). These annual meetings will generally take place in April, they will have a central theme and will incorporate a broad range of participants."For Peace!" (1849-1939) is the topic chosen for the 2013’s meeting, included in the centennial of the First World War Anniversay Program , organized in Portugal by IHC and coordinated internationally by the Imperial War Museum, London, from which the IHC is partner. -

O Portugal atlântico, europeu e lusófono: uma nação de portas abertas
A presença dos Portugueses no mundo não é mais do que um reflexo de uma certa curiosidade tipicamente portuguesa, misturada com um empreendedorismo aventureiro, uma vontade inata de procurar descobrir onde nos leva o caminho. E, historicamente, o caminho levou-nos para todos os cantos do globo, desde o Oceano Atlântico e Mar Mediterrâneo ao Oceano Índico, do Mar do Sul da China até ao Oceano Pacífico. Estas extensas viagens deram a oportunidade aos Portugueses de interagirem com culturas muito diferente. Mas deram-lhe também uma capacidade incomum para abrir as suas portas a outras culturas, outras formas de viver, de fazer negócios, de comunicar e de construir pontes e caminhos.

Género e pluralismo terapêutico. Acesso das mulheres ao sector de saúde privado em África
Que estratégias adotam os grupos mais desprovidos em situações de risco e crise? Como gerem as mulheres as suas trajetórias pelo mercado de cuidados de saúde? Onde não existe proteção social, quais os intervenientes no campo do apoio e cuidados de saúde? Da diversidade terapêutica à saúde reprodutiva e aos novos intervenientes no apoio social, esta conferência aborda o acesso das mulheres aos cuidados de saúde privados em África, considerando-as o grupo populacional mais sensível às decisões macro-económicas internacionais que conduziram ao desenvolvimento do sector privado nos países dependentes da ajuda externa.
