  General interest

  Y a t-il encore sens aujourd'hui à parler d'intérêt général dans un contexte où les sociétés complexes semblent éclatées en une multiplicité de réseaux ? L'intérêt général est-il mort, tué par le pluralisme de la post-modernité, ou à réinventer ? L’intérêt général peut apparaître comme un concept essentiel du républicanisme français, d’abord parce qu’à travers la notion juridique de « volonté générale », il fait partie intégrante de l’univers du droit public, mais aussi, plus simplement, parce qu’il a la chose publique ou la chose commune comme objet. On pourrait évidemment trouver les traces d’un intérêt commun dans beaucoup d’autres traditions, apparemment hétérogènes, y compris chez les libéraux écossais comme A. Smith. Cela n’est pas sans poser la question de l’éventuelle spécificité d’un intérêt général par rapport aux autres formes de l’intérêt commun, de sa réductibilité ou non à la somme des intérêts particuliers.

  Debates, Polemics and Controversies in Early Modern Philosophy

  Third International Conference of the European Society for Early Modern Philosophy

  The general objective of the conference is to take an overview of the present historiographical situation regarding the study of controversies and to contribute to a reappraisal of the study of controversies in the history of early modern philosophy. It will aim not only at mapping the many philosophical controversies of the early modern period, but as well at making explicit the different methodological approaches that can be used to analyse controversies and at evaluating the different explanatory merits of those methodological approaches.
