Seminário de estudo sobre as circulações artísticas, sociais e culturais na Baixa Idade Média (sécs. XIII-XV)
O Seminário de estudo é organizado pelo grupo de investigação “Construir a História” em colaboração com o grupo de investigação “Imagens e textos medievais” e tem como objetivo debater os movimentos de pessoas, produtos e padrões culturais, artísticos e religiosos nos séculos entre XIII e XV tanto do ponto de vista histórico-religioso como artístico.

This workshop is about interconnections between, and in space and time. But it also sees interconnections at other levels: between modelling and analysing, between theory and practice, as well as between humanities and computing.
In the humanities, a close look at networks and relationships, whether formal or informal, personal or social, of information or of knowledge, of transportation or of communication, has always been an important subject of study and, at the same time, a powerful analytical process. In computer science, the study of networks and of methodologies for analysis and visualization of these relationships is nowadays an increasingly well understood and practiced area of knowledge. In both the humanities and computer science, researchers are well aware of the dynamic nature of data and knowledge when viewed through the lenses of space and time.

Environmental approaches of interactions between cities and forest supplies during the Middles Ages and the Early modern period. 12th International Conference on urban History, European Association for Urban History – Main Session M16
As places of consumption and production European medieval and early modern cities exerted a enormous pressure on neighbouring woodlands. Some historical studies have already discussed the way cities tried to impone their control on these lands emphasizing the diversity of needs which were fulfilled by forest exploitation (wood, timber, charcoal, grazing…). They often concluded that urban pressure resulted in an inexorable degradation of the forest cover. Indeed local woodlands and forests products could probably never meet the demand. In order to face shortage or, better, to prevent it, urban authorities attempted on one hand to extend their control on more and more distant forests and to attract interregional or « international » trade flows. On the other hand, they tried to regulate the local market so as to ensure access to several important needs regarding urban economy (charcoal, timber).

CECC, The Research Centre for Communication and Culture, announces the 4thGraduate Conference in Culture Studies, Irony: framing (post)modernity, which will take place at the Catholic University of Portugal in Lisbon on the 23rd and 24th of January 2014. This conference wishes to bring together doctoral students and post-docs working within disciplines that relate to the study of culture (arts, humanities and social sciences), and that seek a forum for prolific debate.

Lisbon Summer School in Science, Society and Culture
LxS - Lisbon Summer School in Science, Society and Culture, to be held in Lisbon on September 9-20, 2013, is the summer event of the Pedro Hispano Doctoral Studies Programme, composed of 5 courses, workshops, and a graduate conference. The courses of the 2013 edition of the summer school focus on five research puzzles raised by current societal challenges: language hegemony and migrations, culture and heritage, social inequality, urban dynamics, and climate change.

Secondly, to open up debate and publicise the scientific results of the latest research project: “Analysis of policies and practices in the area of the use and abuse of drugs. Catholic universities in dialogue with political and social agents” which the centre has been coordinating for three years.

The Call for Papers is now open for the International Conference: Practising the Good Life/The Good Life in Practices, to be held at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa (Lisbon, Portugal) on October 17th/18th 2013. This will be the first conference in Portugal solely dedicated to Lifestyle Mobilities. The conference is free of charge, but is limited to a maximum of 24 paper presentations, to be delivered in plenary sessions over two days.

Performing Documentation in the Conservation of Contemporary Art
Contemporary art conservation requires a re-assessment of the distinction between the work and its re-configuration in documentation. Although documentation is crucial for the survival of many contemporary works of art, it is never neutral: all approaches, formats, media and systems have their own inherent affordances and blind spots and always transform what they document. Furthermore, in process-centered, technology-based or performative artworks in particular, we often can no longer make a sharp distinction between an original work and its subsequent documentation or replication: documentation is part of the work's very core.

Este Encontro é dirigido a todas as Instituições (federadas e não federadas) para que possam partilhar as suas experiências acerca do trabalho desenvolvido junto de famílias com membros toxicodependentes e os profissionais que trabalham na área da Saúde, da Educação, do Serviço Social, Psicologia, da Justiça e da Intervenção Comunitária, bem como aos cidadãos em geral com interesse nesta problemática. A organização do IX Encontro da FPAT pretende debater o tratamento e cuidados de saúde para os consumidores de drogas mais velhos e facilitar a troca de experiências entre as Instituições dedicadas à prevenção, tratamento e reinserção de toxicodependentes e associações de família.

Le colloque international « Connaissance et science coloniale » est le résultat du partenariat entre le Centro de Filosofia das Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa et le Centro de História do Instituto de Investigação Científica Tropical, et vise à promouvoir un forum de réflexion et discussion sur la nature du rôle de la science en contexte colonial, ainsi que sa pertinence en une perspective postcoloniale. La rencontre souhaite joindre des chercheurs et des spécialistes, nationaux et internationaux, sur les sciences naturelles, sociales et humaines pour un débat autour de cette thématique qui est devenue plus visible lors de la dernière décennie.

Metropolização, trajetórias residenciais e modos de vida: fendências nas metrópoles da Europa do Sul
Em Portugal, o processo de urbanização, que tem início na década de 50, atinge o seu auge na década seguinte, entrando pelos “conturbados” anos 70. É a época dos HLM, das New Towns, dos “30 gloriosos” que viriam revolucionar a habitação das massas. Portugal também teve os seus grandes conjuntos de iniciativa pública, poucos. A maioria era privada. Era nas periferias ou nos limites periféricos da cidade que se construíam os “novos bairros”, de habitação coletiva ou de moradias, frequentemente clandestinas.

Programa de bolsas FLAD para docência e investigação nos EUA
A Fundação Luso-Americana para o Desenvolvimento (FLAD) entende que a renovação do interesse pelo estudo da língua e da cultura portuguesas nos meios académicos norte-americanos poderia passar pela criação de uma plataforma aberta às temáticas da lusofonia que incluísse no espaço de cooperação instituições científicas de Portugal, dos países africanos de expressão portuguesa e do Brasil. Os estudos lusófonos, entendidos numa perspectiva multidisciplinar, seriam o elemento agregador do interesse disperso de docentes e investigadores de diferentes áreas das ciências sociais e humanas, projectando uma região linguística de crescente relevância, sendo a FLAD o ponto de encontro e de desenvolvimento de um ambicioso projecto de cooperação transatlântica.

Our goals for the conference are to raise awareness of the artistic exchange and mutual influences between the Han Chinese arts and the arts from different cultural backgrounds in China itself, as well as beyond its geographical and cultural boundaries. We also aim to go through the issues on the construction of artistic identity and the balance between permeability and hegemony, tradition and innovation, convenience and misinterpretation.

Novas substâncias psicoativas – políticas públicas e investig(ação)
Propõe-se com esta conferência um envolvimento e discussão institucional que se revele determinante na construção de uma resposta nacional para o fenómeno das drogas “legais”. O CNJ considera muito importante abrir canais de comunicação institucional onde se promova uma reflexão política, académica e empírica para encontrar metodologias de intervenção eficazes de combate ao consumo destas novas substâncias, com particular atenção no consumo entre os jovens portugueses. Esta conferência é organizada pelo Centro de Investigação e Estudos de Sociologia do Instituto Universitário de Lisboa (ISCTE-IUL), em parceria com o Conselho Nacional de Juventude (CNJ), Instituto do Desporto e Juventude, I.P (IPDJ,I.P.) e Serviço de Intervenção nos Comportamentos Aditivos e nas Dependências (SICAD).
