  1914-1918. The war in maps

  The 1rst World War dramatically affected societies and territories, as well as personal lives and all forms of culture, in Europe and elsewhere in the world. The 1914-1918 conflict had in all respects a foundational nature. On the occasion of the 1rst World War commemorations, and in connection with the exhibition, "Summer of '14: The Last Days of the Old World", which will be held at the French National Library from March 25 to August 3, the French Committee of Cartography organizes a conference specifically dedicated to the role of cartography in the war, according to three main issues : the role of maps during the preparation of the war, the use of maps on the theatre of military operations, the importance of the map in a civil society during the war.

  Fragments d'érudition. Servius et le savoir antique

  Les Commentaires de Servius (4^e-5^e siècle de notre ère) sur les œuvres du poète Virgile (1^er siècle av. J.-C.), ainsi que les ajouts anonymes du Servius Danielis, constituent un maillon essentiel de la transmission du savoir antique jusqu’à nous. Le présent colloque se donne pour but d’analyser les fragments d’érudition ainsi transmis dans des domaines variés. Les communications s’attacheront à faire ressortir, de façon synthétique, l’état des connaissances présentes dans ces commentaires, et poseront également la question de la transmission du savoir et de ses transformations, ainsi que celle du degré de spécialisation et de vulgarisation.

  La carte et le patrimoine

  Journée d'étude annuelle du comité français de cartographie

  Il s’agit, à travers des exemples anciens ou récents, de montrer comment la carte a figuré le patrimoine et comment s’est opérée une cartographie du patrimoine depuis l’émergence de cette notion, de l’époque moderne jusqu’à nos jours. La notion de patrimoine est entendue dans un sens très large : patrimoine architectural ou archéologique, patrimoine écrit ou graphique, patrimoine immatériel (langues, pratiques culturelles, etc.).

  Ideas in movement: the role of conflict and commerce in the history of navigation

  Following successful meetings in 2010 and 2012, Royal Museums Greenwich and the Royal Institute of Navigation are planning a third symposium to bring together current research in the history of navigation. 2014 sees the centenary of the beginning of the First World War. While this conflict provided a powerful stimulus for research and development in navigation, technological developments have also sprung from users and from commercial imperatives.

  Entre le ciel et la terre : savoirs et cosmographie à la Renaissance

  Né dans le sillage humaniste, le projet cosmographique a connu son apogée et son déclin en Europe entre le XVIe siècle et la première moitié du XVIIe siècle. Pendant sa courte existence, ce projet a cherché à décrire la totalité et la diversité du monde à partir des cercles de la sphère céleste. Pour ce faire, les cosmographes ont mobilisé différents savoirs, traditions et pratiques. Cette journée d’étude propose d’interroger cette hétérogénéité dans son contexte historique de production à partir de quatre axes thématiques.
