Santé globale : anticipations, infrastructures, connaissances
The framing of health as a global issue over the last three decades has carved out an intellectual, economic and political space that differs from that of the post-war international public health field. This older system was characterised by disease eradication programs and by the dominance of nation states and the organisations of the United Nations. The actors, intervention targets and tools of contemporary global health contrast with previous international health efforts.

Diplomatie globale et ressources naturelles
Enjeux, pratiques et influences des acteurs non-étatiques (XVIIIe-XXIe siècle)
La fin de la guerre froide a été l’occasion de (re)découvrir le poids des acteurs non-étatiques dans une diplomatie de plus en plus mondialisée. Selon Richard Langhorne, c’est avec le Congrès de Vienne de 1961 que s’amorce le processus de déliquescence de la diplomatie classique née au XVIIe siècle dans laquelle seuls les États jouaient véritablement un rôle. Cet affaiblissement progressif des États a conduit à l’effacement des frontières traditionnelles entre ce qui relève de l’action diplomatique officielle et des relations internationales plus informelles, menées en marge des États. Le poids croissant de divers acteurs non-étatiques sur la scène internationale est un signe révélateur de cette transition.

Bourses Fernand Braudel IFER - septembre 2014
La Fondation maison des sciences de l’homme et ses partenaires offrent des bourses de recherche postdoctorale en sciences humaines et sociales d’une durée de 9 mois dans le cadre de son programme « Fernand Braudel-IFER » (International Fellowships for Experienced Researchers), soutenu par la Commission européenne (programme action Marie Curie – COFUND – 7e PCRD). Le programme Fernand Braudel-IFER se décline en deux volets : le programme Fernand Braudel-IFER incoming est destiné à des séjours en France (pour des chercheurs appartenant à un centre de recherche basé à l’étranger) ; le programme Fernand Braudel-IFER outgoing (pour des chercheurs appartenant à un centre de recherche en France) s’adresse à des candidats résidant en France qui souhaitent réaliser un séjour de recherche dans un autre pays européen (membre de l'Union européenne ou associé au FP7).

How do we globalize the long eighteenth century?
Quelle globalisation pour le long XVIIIe siècle ?
Every student of the 17th or 18th century encounters in his or her own way the global historical dimensions of the more or less ‘domestic’ (provincial, national) subject being addressed. For decades, perhaps, many of us ignored these ramifications, which among other things were hard to treat because we are generally hardpressed to bring to such subjects the kind of specialized knowledge we are used to. (There are of course exceptions, involving colleagues who consciously adopt a global approach, e.g. Atlantic studies, though even these are no doubt truncated in different ways.) In all, the global was not an ‘aporia’ of our studies, so much as something more or less difficult to draw into the discussion and, in that sense, an ‘impensé’.

Revue Espaces et Sociétés
Los movimientos de escolarización masiva registrados en la mayoría de los sistemas educativos en los últimos cincuenta años han transformado profundamente las cuestiones relacionadas con los espacios escolares y educativos. Se observa una recomposición de estos espacios que cuestiona la relación de los cometidos tradicionales de la escuela –instrucción, trasmisión de aprendizajes- con otras misiones educativas más amplias que responden a nuevas problemáticas. Este monográfico se interesa por las modalidades de recomposición de los espacios escolares y educativos en relación con la manera de enfrentar a escala local (administraciones públicas, asociaciones comunitarias o de proximidad, movimientos de educación popular…) los problemas sociales y escolares que marcan la escuela contemporánea. En un contexto concurrencial en el que los espacios urbanos y escolares están cada vez más jerarquizados, las fronteras dentro de la escuela se refuerzan y las de fuera cambian, cuestionamos los vínculos entre segregaciones espaciales, trayectorias escolares y formas de tratamiento de las nuevas problemáticas educativas.

Les études nord-américaines en France et en Europe
Bilan et perspectives
In 1980, François Furet established the first visiting chair in North American studies at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in partnership with the French-American Foundation. Yet, it was not until 1984 and the election of Jean Heffer as permanent full professor that the Center for North American Studies (CENA) came into being. Despite pioneering efforts in some English departments and the creation of the first university chair in North American history at the Sorbonne in 1967, there was significant disparity between the importance of the USA in the contemporary world and the weakness of North American studies in France. Over the last thirty years and under the supervision of Jean Heffer and François Weil, the CENA has become one of the leading institutions for North American scholarship in France and Europe.

Islam and Regional Cultures in Pakistan

With the hope of throwing new light on the transformations of Pakistani society, this one-day conference intends to move the focus away from two dominant discourses on Pakistan : that is, on the one hand, the security discourse of political and media circles that reduces Pakistan to a state on the fringe of failure, trying to cope with radical Islam and terrorism; and, on the other hand, Pakistan’s official nationalism, which rests on a unitary conception of the nation that disregards the cultural and religious diversity of the country, stressing instead Islam and Urdu as national unifiers while relegating regional cultures to folklore. This conference hopes to partly fill this gap by inviting participants to illustrate the complex, lived experience of Islam in Pakistan, the identity component of religious practices that do not fit in the dominant norm, and their inscription in local political and ethnic relations. Papers would ideally use first-hand observation and/or analyses of cultural productions to examine circumscribed case studies.

Common Experiences, Common Desires ? Tracing an Intellectual History between China and Africa

In his 1954 presentation to dignitaries from across Asia and Africa, Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai acknowledged the differences between the two cultural spheres; nevertheless, Zhou stressed, a more important factor in all future relations should be the “common experiences and desires” of people from across the two continents to create a new world from the ashes of war and colonialism. Building on Zhou’s insight into commonalities of experience, this presentation will trace the cultural intersections that have existed between China and African since the 1920s.

Polices et ordre public en France et en Angleterre (1750-1850)
Les perspectives de l’historiographie contemporaine
Traditional historiography has often opposed the French police model to its English counterpart. However, for twenty years, many researchers relativized the differences of these models and focused more on the interactions between cultures of social control. Recent studies have shown the limits of approaches focused on the only national police models as well as the importance of the circulation of police knowledge and technics in the late 18th century and early 19th century. Everywhere in Europe, this period is marked by the will to reform and by reflections on the procedures for the exercise of the police. Through a panel of international researchers, the conference aims to investigate beyond the national perspective by questioning the permanence and changes in police practices on both sides of the Channel. We will ultimately highlight the major trends of contemporary historiography and identify new paths of work.

La conférence cherche à réunir des jeunes chercheurs et doctorants qui travaillent sur les questions aux confins du droit et des autres disciplines. Le projet a été initialement conçu comme une réponse au silence de la discipline juridique s’agissant des causes, des effets, et des solutions à apporter à la récente crise économique. Plus généralement, nous souhaitons mettre en place un cadre permettant de débattre sur la manière dont les juristes européens peuvent s’approprier les problématiques posées par la gouvernance globale. Cette année la conférence se tiendra à sciences politiques Paris les 19 et 20 mai 2014. -

La santé des familles monoparentales au Royaume-Uni
Du Black Report au rapport Marmot (1990-2010)
La durée de vie des Anglais a augmenté mais les disparités sanitaires se sont accentuées dans le même temps (Marmot, 2010). L’objectif de la journée d’études permettra de lever le voile sur ces phénomènes et de les analyser au regard d’enquêtes qualitatives et quantitatives par exemple. Il s’agira d’étudier les réalités de la vie quotidienne de ces parents, les inégalités sociales et géographiques en matière de santé, de comprendre les mécanismes et d’envisager les enjeux sanitaires sur les futures générations tout en sachant que la responsabilité de la santé publique est transférée du National Health Service aux collectivités locales, selon les propositions du gouvernement de coalition.

Transition énergétique des sociétés européennes, de la ville au territoire
L'exemple de l'Allemagne et du Royaume-Uni
En partenariat avec Electricité de France (EDF), l’Institut d’études avancées (IEA) de Paris recrute deux chercheurs internationaux de haut niveau en sciences humaines et sociales et domaines connexes pour une période de 9 mois chacun, dans le cadre d’un programme de recherche sur la transition énergétique des sociétés européennes, et en particulier l’Allemagne et le Royaume-Uni, de la ville au territoire. L'IEA de Paris offre la possibilité aux chercheurs qu’il accueillera à partir d’octobre 2014 ou janvier 2015, de se consacrer entièrement au développement de leur recherche en bénéficiant d’un environnement scientifique de premier plan, et en établissant des réseaux durables avec les institutions universitaires et de recherche à Paris et dans la Région Île-de-France.
