  Silence

  La troisième édition des journées d’étude du laboratoire ICTT se construit sur un paradoxe cinglant : briser le silence pour en parler. À cet égard, le silence ne serait-il pas en effet « contre-performatif » puisqu’il s’agit de se taire pour le réaliser ? Si tel est le cas, quel sens donner alors au silence quand on sait qu’il n’est nullement réductible à une valeur figée ? Tantôt négatif, lorsqu’il est vécu comme un aveu d’impuissance, une faiblesse, l’expression du mépris, de l’oppression, de l’abandon ou de l’oubli, tantôt positif, quand il devient synonyme de sagesse ou témoin d’un profond respect, tout laisse à penser que la signification du silence est tributaire du contexte dans lequel il se manifeste.

  Conference, symposium - Urban studies

  At the frontiers of urban space

  From 22nd to 24th January 2014, will be held the International conference “At the Frontiers of Urban Space. Small towns of the world” at the University of Avignon. Organized by the laboratory ESPACE, this conference aims to compare the different issues concerning the least studied part of the urban hierarchy. It will also address the question of limits and definitions that are supposed to set the opposition between urban and rural, as well as between urban and metropolitan. Process of emergence, growth, economic and social role, territorial integration, governance: this meeting provides an opportunity for researchers and professionals from different backgrounds to take stock on a topical issue that arises all around the world.
