  Annual Conference of the Commission on Urban Anthropology [CUA-IUAES]

  Ce colloque s'inscrit dans le cadre de la réunion annuelle de la Commission on urban anthropology de l'International union of anthropological and ethnological sciences. La thématique choisie cette année vise à rendre compte comment, dans différentes parties du monde, se gèrent les écarts entre la ville imaginée (par les aménageurs, les professionels, les artistes) et la ville pratiquée quotidiennement. Comment anthropologues et ethnographes rendent-ils compte tout à la fois de la ville proposée par les politiques publiques et de la ville des habitants et des usagers ?

  Changements urbains et attachements

  Panel 4

  L’espace urbain est un lieu propice à l’analyse des changements rapides vécus comme des situations d’épreuve et d’incertitude. Nous souhaitons interroger des contextes de changement urbain radical à partir d’une perspective de l’attachement en tant que manière d’habiter la ville. Ici l’attachement, compris comme ce à quoi nous tenons et ce qui nous tient, ou encore ce qui nous relie, se manifeste par l’instauration d’espaces-temps singuliers, exprimant les relations des individus à leur environnement. Or, en situation de changement radical ces attachements sont mis à l’épreuve, parfois détruits ou totalement reformulés, voire même le produit de ces contextes.

  Dreamed/planned cities and experienced cities

  Congrès annuel de la Commission d’anthropologie urbaine [IUAES]

  Nowadays, there is a growing interest among anthropologists to do urban research that looks at both the government of the city and the dwellers' representations of the city (Lefebvre). Many ethnographies have thus focused, on the one hand, on urban policies and, on the other hand, on social practices. The Urban Anthropology Series - published by Ashgate - and the works published in the Journal Urbanities are good examples of this growing trend among anthropologists, which is consistent with the major transformation of cities around the world: gentrification, competition between cities, urban sprawl, mobility, heritagization, etc.. Urbanity is paradoxically claimed as one of the main attributes of Modernity at a time when cities are diluting and disseminating. The aim of this conference is to understand both the dreamed/planned cities and the experienced cities. However, we do not want to oppose those who think the city to those who inhabit and practice it. Everyone is entitled to have personal thoughts about the place where one lives.
