  New Perspectives on Global Environmental Images

  The international conference proposes to mobilise a broad variety of perspectives from a large disciplinary spectrum in order to analyse the strategies and imaginaries that are connected to the production, the circulation and the power of global environmental images. From icons of the environmental movement over expert graphics mobilised by the IPCC to satellite imagery, global environmental images form the sensory basis of our understanding of the planetary processes that govern the “Anthropocene”. The images all actively participate, at very different scales, in our interpretation and understanding of the changes of the Earth system as well as the consequences we closely associate to global climate change. As true mediators between different publics and cultures, between global processes and local impacts, new critical enquiries into global environmental images propose a highly fruitful discussion of the complex relationship between science, society, politics and nature.

  The cluster of excellence (labex) Pasts in the present : history, heritage, memory opens one-year postdoctoral positions.The postdoctoral positions are inscribed in the themes and projects of the cluster. For each of these full-time contracts, the postdoctoral researcher is expected to develop during part of his/her working time (1/3 max) a personal research project related to the themes of the labex Pasts in the Present.

  Voltaire philosopher

  Ce colloque a pour objet d’examiner à nouveaux frais le statut de Voltaire philosophe, et plus largement le rapport que celui-ci entretient à la philosophie et aux philosophes qu’il ne cesse de lire, de commenter, de réfuter, et d’adapter plus ou moins explicitement. Outre le dialogue permanent qu’il cultive avec quelques-uns des grands courants philosophiques de son temps (occasionalisme malebranchien, optimisme leibnizien, sensualisme lockéen, etc.), Voltaire est un formidable passeur d’idées nouvelles (on sait qu’il a très largement contribué à faire connaître Bacon et Newton en France).
