    Il Laterizio nei cantieri imperiali — Roma ed il Mediterraneo

    Questo workshop intende promuovere il dibattito, su scala mediterranea, intorno al materiale di costruzione emblematico dell’architettura antica. Si tratterà in particolare di osservare come il laterizio abbia servito il potere imperiale, come abbia partecipato all’innovazione e alla trasmissione del sapere tecnico romano, come abbia influenzato e determinato l’organizzazione dei cantieri imperiali, com’è stato prodotto e diffuso attraverso l’Impero ed infine, come si è integrato nei processi di romanizzazione.

    Call for papers - Urban studies

    Summer School "History Takes Place - Dynamics of Urban Change"

    The summer school invites applications particularly from postgraduate students in history, art history, cultural studies and the social sciences, as well as young architects and city planners. Applicants should have a genuine interest in an interdisciplinary exchange on the history of the city and city development. Participants should have a specialization connected with Rome as well as a keen thematic and methodological interest in urban studies. Sessions will be held in English. Applicants are expected to prepare for the sessions with course materials and reading lists in order to be able to give a presentation on a set topic related to their academic interests and competencies. Travel and accommodation expenses will be covered by the organizers.

    The archaeology of early maritime navigation

    Comparative approaches to the western Mediterranean and the English Channel / North Sea

    L’archéologie de la navigation maritime affiche un dynamisme sans précédent depuis quelques années. En Méditerranée, sur les bords de la Manche et de la mer du Nord, des découvertes exceptionnelles attestent désormais les voyages à travers les mers d’Europe. Les archéologues connaissaient depuis longtemps la réalité des déplacements des hommes, des biens et des idées par voie maritime depuis des époques très anciennes. Cette rencontre sera l’occasion de faire le point sur les résultats obtenus, les acquis historiques et les nouvelles perspectives de recherche, mais il s’agira également d’aborder des questions de méthodologie dans ce type de recherche et notamment la définition des protocoles, l’apport de l’archéologie expérimentale et les modes de valorisation.
