Patrick Modiano and the archaeology of the contemporary
La récente attribution du prix Nobel de littérature (2014) à l’écrivain français Patrick Modiano ; laquelle suit de très près celle que s’est vu décerner J.-M. Gustave Le Clézio (2008), doit forcément être interprétée comme une consécration de la contemporanéité littéraire en français dans toutes ses mouvances et tendances, après que l’Académie suédoise a rendu pareil hommage symbolique à la modernité scripturale en la personne et écriture de Claude Simon (1985). Cet événement majeur pour le champ littéraire français s’avère l’occasion de réfléchir à l’apport singulier de l’écriture romanesque de Patrick Modiano au panorama de la fiction narrative contemporaine en langue française ; lui que l’Académie qualifie de « Marcel Proust de notre temps ».

Another Music in a Different Room
Resulting from a series of developed works in the last decade within the framework of social sciences (namely Sociology of Culture, Sociology of Arts, Sociology of Youth, Urban Sociology and Sociology of Music), in this advanced seminar we will have the opportunity of deepening the understanding around the importance, functioning, process, the agents, characteristics, genres and subgenres of the current urban music scenes. The ANOTHER MUSIC IN A DIFFERENT ROOM will be a fruitful space for ideas, discussions and, therefore, for a great developments on scientific knowledge. So, it’s our intention to share all this scientific dynamic with the world in order to contribute to a larger debate on music, youth, lifestyles, culture, cultural scenes, music scenes. In this context, the ideas and discussions held in the Advanced Seminar, both by lecturers and participants, will be published in a Collaborative e-book.

Trench art and the trenches in art. The Great War, a hundred years on
Pour signaler le centenaire du début de la Première Guerre Mondiale, l’Institut de Littérature Comparée de la Faculté de Lettres de l’Université de Porto s’associe aux organismes officiels – Ministère des Affaires Étrangères et Mairie de Porto – qui organisent plusieurs activités commémoratives de l’éphéméride à Porto. Dans ce Colloque Inters-disciplinaire, il s’agira d’approfondir le débat autour de la participation portugaise à la Première Grande Guerre, moyennant une réflexion générale et articulée qui, au-delà des questions purement historico-politiques, touche les différents domaines artistiques, tout particulièrement le domaine de la littérature.

Portugal, 40 years of Democracy
No momento em que se cumprem 40 anos da revolução democrática do 25 de abril de 1974, o país que ela ajudou a transformar vive uma das mais graves crises dos últimos 160 anos. Em 40 anos de democracia, Portugal viveu de forma intensa as grandes transformações da contemporaneidade que mudaram profundamente relações sociais, identidades coletivas, sistema político, que produziram avanços e recuos muito acentuados na transformação da natureza das relações económicas. Poucas sociedades europeias sofreram mudanças tão acentuadas no espaço de uma geração: a emancipação de uma das mais longas ditaduras da história europeia, o fim de uma guerra longa de 13 anos, ou a explosão criativa de democracia vivida há 40 anos abriram o caminho para a mudança socioeconómica e a maturidade política e cultural que, contudo, desde há alguns anos entraram num ciclo depressivo.

Underground music scenes and DIY cultures
The Conference Organizing Committee hereby announces its “Keep It Simple, Make It Fast! Underground music scenes and DIY cultures Conference” which will take place in Porto from 9 July to 11 July 2014. The organisation of the KISMIF Conference will be undertaken by the Research Project Keep It Simple, Make It Fast!. The Call for Papers of this Conference is open for presentations to all core areas of sociology, social sciences and also design, illustration, visual arts and performing arts. The KISMIF Conference Organizing Committee invites experienced and young scholars from various disciplines to participate in the conference. The KISMIF Conference Organizing Committee would like the participants to know that the selected papers from the conference will be published in an edited collection by an international publisher.

The French-speaking world: celebrations, events and effects
Question time
La francophonie n’est certes pas un fait culturel ou politique nouveau. Toutefois – indéchiffrable ou irréductible aux effets de correspondance linguistique au territoire ; qui plus est chargée d’une aura littéraire bien au-delà des francophonies originelles ou postcoloniales –, elle se revêt d’une ambiguïté définitoire, - souvent déclinée au pluriel -, et d’un statut géopolitique en éternel chantier. Quoi qu’il en soit, une chose est sûre : la francophonie se définit surtout par des interrogations ou des négations, tant par rapport au centre hexagonal que vis-à-vis d’une uniformisation linguistique et culturelle hégémonique.
