The Smithsonian American Art Museum invites nominations for the 2015 Charles C. Eldredge Prize, an annual award for outstanding scholarship in American art history. Single-author books devoted to any aspect of the visual arts of the United States and published in the three previous calendar years are eligible.

The Terra Foundation Fellowships in American Art at the Smithsonian American Art Museum seek to foster a cross-cultural dialogue about the history of art of the United States up to 1980. They support work by scholars from abroad who are researching American art or by U.S. scholars who are investigating international contexts for American art. Fellowships are residential and support full-time independent and dissertation research.

The Cinémathèque française and history research in the cinema
Call for researchers at the Cinémathèque française 2014-2015
La Cinémathèque française souhaite développer ses liens avec le monde de la recherche en histoire du cinéma. Le programme de son appel à chercheurs annuel a pour but d’offrir un accueil privilégié, assorti de divers avantages, à des chercheurs intéressés par des travaux sur ses collections, en vue de thèses ou de mastères (master 2). Le partenariat entre le chercheur et la Cinémathèque française donne lieu à un contrat de recherche stipulant les droits et obligations du chercheur. Parmi les chercheurs dont les projets seront retenus, trois pourront bénéficier d’une bourse.

Call for researchers and fellowships BnF (Bibliothèque nationale de France) 2014-2015
Le programme de l'appel à chercheurs a été lancé par la Bibliothèque nationale de France en 2003 ; il lui permet d'accueillir, chaque année universitaire et de manière individuelle au sein des départements, huit nouveaux chercheurs associés. En 2004, la Bibliothèque nationale de France a décidé d'accorder un soutien financier à deux chercheurs invités pendant un an, une troisième bourse étant réservée, à partir de 2012, aux travaux de recherche portant sur l'histoire du livre et des bibliothèques. Depuis 2006, des bourses de recherche sont offertes chaque année par des mécènes, sur des thèmes spécifiques : bourse Fondation Louis Roederer sur la photographie ; bourse de Madame Claude Maillard sur l'oeuvre de Claude Maillard ; bourse de Monsieur Mark Pigott sur l'histoire, les arts et l'histoire de l'art, l'innovation et les technologies ; bourse Prix de la BnF sur l'oeuvre d'Yves Bonnefoy.

En raison de l'évolution des coûts d'édition et de reproduction, la fondation revoit à la hausse la somme versée et le prix devient biennal.

12 grants for M.A. and PhD. students will be provided for the attendance at the international conference "Circulation as a factor of cultural aggregation: relics, ideas and cities in the Middle Ages", held on 8-11 May 2014 in Telč, Czech Republic. 2014 Terra Foundation Academic Awards, Fellowships & Grants
These grants provide support for publication projects on historical American art (pre-1980) that make a significant contribution to scholarship and have an international dimension. Projects may include translations of texts on American art; publications written by non-U.S. scholars or those with a significant number of non-U.S. contributors; and publications with a focused thesis exploring American art in an international context. Projects must be under contract for publication. Books may receive up to $30,000; articles may receive up to $3,000. For more information, please visit our website.

2014 Terra Foundation Academic Awards, Fellowships & Grants
These eight-week residential fellowships provide the opportunity to pursue individual work and research in a community of peers while being mentored by senior artists and scholars. Ten fellowships are awarded annually to doctoral students at an advanced stage of research and writing on pre-1980 American art and visual culture and to artists with a master’s degree.

Smithsonian American Art Museum Fellowship Opportunities
The Smithsonian American Art Museum and its Renwick Gallery invite applications for research fellowships in art and visual culture of the United States. A variety of predoctoral, postdoctoral, and senior fellowships are available. Fellowships are residential and support independent and dissertation research. The stipend for a one-year fellowship is $30,000 for predoctoral fellows or $45,000 for senior and postdoctoral fellows, plus generous research and travel allowances. The standard term of residency is twelve months, but terms as short as three months will be considered; stipends are prorated for periods of less than twelve months.

The Terra Foundation for American Art International Essay Prize recognizes excellent scholarship by a non-U.S. scholar in the field of historical American art. Manuscripts should advance the understanding of American art, demonstrating new findings and original perspectives. The prize-winning essay will be translated and published in American Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s scholarly journal.
