  Friend or Foe: Art and the Market in the Nineteenth Century

  International conference organized by the European Society for Nineteenth-Century Art, the Netherlands Institute for Art History (RKD) and The Mesdag Collection, in conjunction with the exhibition on the artist, collector and gentleman-dealer Hendrik Willem Mesdag and the Dutch Watercolour Society, at The Mesdag Collection in The Hague, the publication on this illustrious artist and his different roles within the art world, and the digital reconstruction of the art collection owned by Mesdag, carried out by the Netherlands Institute for Art History.

  State, work and society (France and England, 18th-19th centuries)

  Socio-economic history workshop Université Paris 8 (IDHES, EHESS et ENS)

  On examinera les modalités d'organisation et de régulation des relations de travail en France, Angleterre et dans le monde atlantique, à partir de divers dossiers : apprentissage, travail des enfants, corporations de métier, travail libre ou contraint, et enfin propriété technique et industrielle. On rendra compte aussi des travaux récents, français et britanniques, dans le domaine de l'histoire politique, économique et sociale. Sont prévus en outre, au second semestre, des exposés de chercheurs étrangers: Bert de Munck (apprentissage) et Peter Kirby (travail des enfants).
