Bodily norms - the issue of otherness

The Vulnerability and Marginality of Youth in the Mediterranean Basin (19th-20th centuries)
French Journal for the History of “Unconventional” Childhood
The Revue d’histoire de l’enfance “irrégulière” (the French Journal for the History of “Unconventional” Childhood) will devote its next issue to the different perceptions and management policies focused on irregular or marginal youth in the countries of the Mediterranean basin (i.e. the northern coast of the Mediterranean, the Middle East, the Mashriq and the Maghreb) throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. Specifically, we expect that the study of the public policies adopted by the countries of the region to deal with their youth will put the hypothesis of the unity and singularity of the Mediterranean to the test: either it will allow some sort of shared approach to emerge or, on the contrary, it will expose the Mediterranean as a cultural and ideological construct.

Towards a history of children's rights in the 20th century
Transnational approaches
This symposium aims to explore how mobilization, knowledge, norms and institutions designed to further children's rights were articulated within transnational space. These rights straddle different fields: law and justice, social policy, education and leisure, public health and humanitarian intervention, etc. The symposium plans to examine the social practices and the construction of the sphere of child advocacy. It also aims to reconstitute the historical experience of the actors, in particular the role of the children themselves in constituting their rights by marshaling the concept of citizenship.

Relationships based on age-related dominated
History, sociology, anthropology

History of Education(s) Inside and Outside School
Since the Middle Ages, schooling has increasingly become a stage in the life of children and youth. But other educational bodies, including the family of course, have always existed alongside the school. In particular, one thinks of the variety of religious, professional, private, public, communitarian, and national actors or institutions, which have sought at different historical periods to “educate” the young and the not so young (churches, armies, hospitals, clubs, sections of the job market for vocational training, etc.). A variety of associations with educational, philosophical and political goals have similarly acted as educational bodies (for example, church clubs, after-school institutions, youth organizations and movements).
