  L’approche par le genre est un excellent angle de mise en relief des inégalités et discriminations subies par une partie de l’humanité, comme de mise en évidence des violences concrètes et symboliques exercées par les systèmes dominants (patriarcaux, capitalistes, colonialistes et post-colonialistes) et leurs agents. Cette journée d’études consistera à mettre en perspective les présences artistiques et politiques de femmes latino-américaines dans ces systèmes, en tant que résistances à ces derniers. Les modes et figures d'interventions politico-artistiques de femmes latino-américaines feront donc l’objet de nos réflexions.

  When Books and Art Hurt

  Censorship, Emotions and Cultural Regulation in South Asia

  This workshop aims at exploring issues of literary and artistic censorship in South Asia (India, Pakistan and Bangladesh) by focusing on the way anticipated "hurt" often justifies the policing and regulation of the artistic sphere (cinema, visual arts, literature). Our point of departure is, in the words of Arjun Appadurai, the observation that culture is today the field "where fantasies of purity, authenticity, borders and security can be enacted" and that the same censors patrol the boundaries of politics and aesthetics (Coetzee). In the Indian subcontinent "hurt feelings" are often reactivated or cultivated, staged and mass-mediatised to claim recognition and legitimacy in the public sphere, to require compensation or "redressal". Many artists, writers and academics point to a politics of ultra-sensitivity and a thriving "marketplace of outrage". Our objective in this workshop is to question the vocabulary, topicality and tangibility of "hurt" in the public sphere on these issues of artistic regulation in South Asia, and to understand what it means to say that words or images wound.

  From diasporas to "world literature", the writing of exile, 20th-21st centuries

  L'expérience de l'exil, par ce qu'elle comporte de surprises, de traumatismes, d'exclusions, peut donner lieu à l'émergence d'une parole littéraire. L'individu, pris dans la tourmente de l'histoire et confronté à la différence (de culture, de langue, de société), est amené à mettre en scène et en fiction son parcours, par exemple sous la forme du témoignage, et à réinventer des formes littéraires et poétiques, parfois syncrétisant, parfois excluant à son tour la culture et la langue d'accueil.
