  Après avoir questionné la place des plaisirs en ville, le cinquième numéro d’Urbanités interroge la ville comme lieu d’exercice du châtiment. Punition sévère donnée à celui qui a – prétendument ou non – commis une faute, pour le corriger, le châtiment s’inflige aux humains à l’intérieur des enceintes de nos villes par l’exécution en place publique ; contre les murs des cités pour les détruire à coups de bombardements ; en y construisant des murs pour séparer un territoire d’un autre territoire, les détenus de leurs proches. Ce numéro d'Urbanités s'attache à interroger les modalités du châtiment en ville, son inscription spatiale, les lieux qu’il produit, les pratiques et représentations qu’il façonne.

  Transnationalism, Identities’ Dynamics and Cultural Diversification in Urban Post-migratory Situations

  TRICUD conference

  The TRICUD Final International Conference on "Transnationalism, Identities’ Dynamics and Cultural Diversification in Urban Post-migratory Situations" will take place at the University of Liège on 14, 15 and 16 May 2014. It aims at presenting the main findings of the multidisciplinary research programme TRICUD (2010-2014) involving the following research centres: CEDEM, CLEO and Pôle SuD. TRICUD aims to better understand how migration transforms both sending societies in the South and receiving societies in the North. The conference will include keynote speakers Nina GLICK-SCHILLER (University of Manchester) and Steve VERTOVEC (Max Planck Institute).

  Les enjeux sociaux, politiques, culturels et économiques que recèlent les outils issus du numérique sont souvent cernés à partir des réalités des populations urbaines les plus instruites vivant en Amérique du Nord et en Europe occidentale. L’on prête, dans ce cadre, à ces outils, de grands pouvoirs. Par leur capacité à accélérer les interactions et réduire les distances spatio-temporelles, les technologies numériques auraient affecté nos façons de penser et de vivre. Les formes de liens et de coprésence que permettent ces technologies nous conduiraient à repenser les communautés, les institutions et les espaces à travers d’autres modèles que ceux de groupes discrets et structurés autour de territoires.

  Contestations, Emotions! Social and artistic expressions in the Public Space

  A theoretical and practical perspective from the ground

  During the recent movements of contestation in Mediterranean countries different kind of aesthetic gestures using the streets and the public spaces as places for a public manifestation of some social, ordinary -or radical- critic. They proceed from an ordinary culture that is transformed, adapted then spread out upon a new form in artistic tracks taking place in public spaces. These actions have both a critical and aesthetic dimension. They rely on the environment, mobilize cognitive, memorial and cultural or ordinary patterns. They also mobilize a common culture . This is the case of rap, new uses of old music, villages against occupation, graphic art in Palestine, in Egypt or in Syria. The conference will present and analyse some forms of experimentations, and public and critical commitments. What kind of “public spaces” is in use nowadays? How it configures new spaces of critic and public space and a new environment ? The panel will adopt a trans-disciplinary perspective by bringing together social scientists and practicers or activists.
