Angles, French Perspectives on the Anglophone World
For its inaugural issue, Angles: French Perspectives on the Anglophone World welcomes original proposals inspired by the celebrated aphorism: ‘Brevity is the soul of wit’. Often used to describe a literary and social form (humor or sarcasm) or to illustrate commonplaces, the dictum encapsulates beliefs about the relationship between ‘brevity’ and ‘wit’ which have numerous implications in different disciplines and forms of expression. The aphorism not only suggests that brevity is a gateway to revelatory truths, it also implies that true ‘wit’ exists only in shortened form, paradoxically positing depth of meaning (‘soul’) in brevity of form, and also hinting that humor loses its essence when explicated. Additional contradictions emerge when one recalls the context in which the line appears in Hamlet, when Polonius tires the audience by giving some words of wisdom to his departing son.

Serial experiences seminar! 2014-2015 programme
Le séminaire « Expériences sérielles dans une perspective transatlantique : productions, réceptions, circulations » à l’université de la Sorbonne Nouvelle, dans le cadre de l’axe 2 « information, médias et représentations » de l’équipe d’accueil CREW (centre de recherche sur les mondes anglophones) EA 4399 se réunira régulièrement autour de lectures et de présentations de travaux de recherche liés à la notion de sérialité dans un contexte spécifiquement américain ou britannique.

American Studies research students workshop
L’Atelier des Doctorants Américanistes (ADAM) reprend des activités pour l'année 2014 / 2015. L’ADAM a vu le jour au début de l’année 2008 au sein du laboratoire CREW de la Sorbonne Nouvelle. Animé par des doctorants, il permet à des jeunes chercheurs de plusieurs universités de se réunir pour échanger sur la recherche en civilisation américaine. Cette année notre thème de réflexion est le suivant : Minority / Majority.

Les communications et les contributions de ce Symposium International : « Le développement durable euro-africain des énergies renouvelables : oxymore financier et complémentarité sociale et environnementale » visent à présenter des résultats de recherches empiriques et/ou théoriques. Elles apportent une contribution d’ordre théorique, conceptuel, méthodologique ou épistémologique, compte tenu de l’état actuel des connaissances. Ce symposium international a pour objectif de promouvoir la recherche scientifique action et assurer les actions de transfert de connaissance sur les énergies renouvelables et l’efficacité énergétique aux niveaux : national, régional et international, y compris par le biais d’un Think Tank de séminaires et de conférences.

North American Studies in France and Europe
State of the Art and Future Prospects
In 1980, François Furet established the first visiting chair in North American studies at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in partnership with the French-American Foundation. Yet, it was not until 1984 and the election of Jean Heffer as permanent full professor that the Center for North American Studies (CENA) came into being. Despite pioneering efforts in some English departments and the creation of the first university chair in North American history at the Sorbonne in 1967, there was significant disparity between the importance of the USA in the contemporary world and the weakness of North American studies in France. Over the last thirty years and under the supervision of Jean Heffer and François Weil, the CENA has become one of the leading institutions for North American scholarship in France and Europe.

Ce séminaire dont les séances sont en français ou en anglais présente des travaux récents ou en cours d'histoire, sciences politique ou sociologie sur l'aire anglophone au sens large (Grande-Bretagne, Etats-Unis, Commonwealth, anciennes colonies anglophones). Les présentations sont le plus souvent faites par des collègues étrangers. Nous avons le plaisir de vous annoncer la création d'un groupe de travail « Expériences sérielles dans une perspective transatlantique : productions, réceptions, circulations » à l'université Sorbonne Nouvelle-Paris 3. Ce groupe se réunira régulièrement autour de lectures et de présentation de travaux de recherche liés à la notion de sérialité dans un contexte spécifiquement américain ou britannique. S'adressant aux chercheurs de toutes disciplines, ce séminaire entend questionner la production d'objets médiatiques sériels dans l'espace anglophone, à toutes époques et sur tous supports, dans le domaine aussi bien de la production audiovisuelle que des arts plastiques, de la littérature, etc.

La revue Genre & Histoire consacrera un de ses prochains numéros à la thématique des « Femmes sans mari » à l’époque contemporaine. Ce numéro souhaite privilégier, sans exclusivité toutefois,les jeunes chercheur-e-s (étudiant.e.s en master, doctorant.e.s, post-doctorant.e.s).

Young researchers workshop
Un atelier mensuel « Jeunes chercheurs handicap(s) et sociétés » se tiendra lors de l'année universitaire 2013 / 2014. Cet atelier s’adresse principalement à des doctorants et post-doctorants engagés dans un travail de recherche sur le handicap. Il est organisé avec le réseau de jeunes chercheurs du programme Handicaps et sociétés de l’EHESS. Les séances offriront aux jeunes chercheurs un espace de présentation et de discussion de leurs travaux. Les questions pratiques rencontrées (publications, orientation professionnelle) ainsi que les problèmes méthodologiques (rapport au handicap, recherche participative) feront l’objet d’une réflexion collective.
