  Probing misunderstanding

  Dans une approche multidisciplinaire, le colloque se propose d’interroger les conditions de l’entente à partir de la possibilité du malentendu. Il sera envisagé dans sa dimension politique, dans la tension entre norme et hétérogénéité de sens qu'il suppose, mais aussi en tant que source de créativité. Notre but est de faire reconnaître le malentendu non comme un simple outil descripteur de situations mais comme un concept critique propre à interroger un monde qui n’a de cesse de vouloir « donner la parole ». Comment fonctionner dans (ou grâce ?) au malentendu, comment en parler ? Comment lui faire place ? Existe-t-il des lieux (la prison, l’asile, l’entreprise) où une logique managériale de communication totale rend a priori impossible tout malentendu ? Quelles sont alors les stratégies développées par les individus pour exister en dépit de cette impossibilité, pour récupérer une place, une parole, une subjectivité ?

  Exploring repetition in popular music

  Over and Over: Exploring repetition in popular music aims at identifying and studying the recent aesthetic and analytical developments of musical repetition. From the 32-bar forms of Tin Pan Alley, through the cyclic forms of modal jazz, to the more recent accumulation of digital layers, beats, and breaks in Electronic Dance Music (EDM), repetition as both an aesthetic disposition or formal musicological property stimulated a diversity of genres and techniques. After decades of riffs, loops, vamps, reiterated rhythmic patterns, as well as pervasive harmonic formulae and recurring structural units in standardized song forms, the time has come to give these notions the place they deserve in the study of popular music.
