La Fondation maison des sciences de l'Homme ouvre une chaire dédiée à la thématique de la « ville globale » dont les titulaires seront Saskia Sassen et Richard Sennett. Un séminaire sur inscription est organisé qui regroupe chercheurs, fonctionnaires et intervenants sur les questions urbaine.

Humanitarian transition: states of research
Followed by a conference-debate "Humanitarian action and the renewal of North-South relationships"
Le Fonds Croix-Rouge française a pour mission d’encourager la recherche francophone dans le champ humanitaire en attribuant des financements et prix de recherche à des projets portés soit par des chercheurs individuels, soit par des équipes. Le Fonds a lancé son premier appel à projets et à bourses postdoctorales « Transition humanitaire dans les pays bénéficiaires de l’aide internationale » en mars 2014 et a sélectionné 6 projets sur 3 continents. À l’issue d’une année de recherche, le Fonds s’associe au Monde diplomatique pour présenter le résultat des travaux de la promotion 2014 et les mettre en perspective au sein d’un débat présidé par Jean-François Mattei et Jean-Pierre Olivier de Sardan. Enfin, à l’occasion de cette journée, le Fonds remettra ses deux prix de recherche 2015.

Emergence in question: a political category, critical approaches
La discussion sur l'émergence mène ainsi à la discussion sur la victoire du modèle libéral-moderne sur la vision développementaliste de la globalisation ; et sur la vision européocentrée de l'histoire du monde, où l'Europe continue à être au plus haut de l'échelle. Compte tenu des conditions politico-historiques de notre époque, quelles seraient les voies possibles pour les pays « en développement » ? Les pays émergents auraient-ils trouvé la réponse à ce défi qu’est l’ascension de l'échelle du développement ? L'« émérgence » serait-elle une position possible et désirable pour tous les pays, ou les pays émergents seraient-ils dans une position de changer l'ordre international et en finir avec les distinctions opposant les pays développés à ceux « en développement » ? Si tel était le cas, les pays émergents représentent-ils une menace pour l' « Occident » ? Quelles sont les réponses de ce dernier face à ce phénomène et aux possibilités qu’il ouvre ?

Le commerce de détail est passé d’une fonction de distribution associée à la société de production à une fonction polyforme associée à la société de consommation, où la dimension ludique ou « distractive » prend une place d’importance. Les lieux du commerce se transforment sous l’effet conjugué des contraintes urbanistiques (urbanisme commercial), de la montée des nouveaux modes d’achat (e-commerce, m-commerce, t-commerce) et de la diversification des profils des consommateurs. L’objectif de ce séminaire est donc d’approfondir ces nouvelles problématiques liées au commerce de détail et à la consommation.

Hommes et femmes entre exploitation et émancipation
Les économies actuelles, y compris dans les zones les plus reculées de la planète, sont de plus en plus monétarisées mais aussi de plus en plus financiarisées, au sens où les personnes ont un recours grandissant à des services financiers. Ces pratiques financières sont initiées par des acteurs dont le statut, le profil et les motivations sont extrêmement variés. Bien au-delà de l’offre de services financiers, ce sont de nouveaux modèles dits de « développement » qui sont véhiculés à travers ces pratiques. avec par exemple l’émergence de concepts tels que « social business », « value chain finance » ou encore « triple bottom line ».

À l’heure de la numérisation de la production et de la commercialisation, les métiers d’art constituent plus que jamais un atout pour le développement économique et social de l’Europe. Une nouvelle approche est aujourd’hui nécessaire pour mieux comprendre les opportunités qu’ils représentent pour d’autres secteurs économiques et pour le développement d’activités dont l’Europe peut devenir leader.

Justice and Climate Transitions
In the lead up to the 2015 UN Paris Climate Conference the Paris Institute for Advanced Studies will hold an interdisciplinary conference on “Justice and Climate Transitions” organised with the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. The Conference will bring together leading thinkers from philosophy, policy and the social sciences to examine the moral, social and political issues at stake in transition to a low carbon society. Panellists are invited to discuss how might we interpret and evaluate different transition pathways and low-carbon futures in terms of social justice. The aim is to present both philosophical and critical social scientific perspectives on these questions before bringing these into dialogue with each other.

Préserver le pluralisme de l'information dans les médias et la diversité culturelle dans les arts renvoie à des enjeux sociétaux similaires : lutter contre l'uniformité en matière d'opinions politiques, de goûts culturels ; préserver des formes d'expression originales, indépendantes, dissidentes... Sur un plan académique, ces questions se croisent également à travers des concepts et des méthodes relativement proches. À cet égard, l'internet et les réseaux sociaux numériques offrent un terrain d'analyse idéal pour comparer ces enjeux et ces approches.

Europe and the Arabian Peninsula (19th-21th centuries)
This international workshop will deal with the relations between Europe and the Arabian Peninsula in the Modern Era, from the beginnings of globalization until the most recent economic and strategic developments. In order to study both the evolution and the contents of such relations, two main topics will be given a more particular interest: Cultural and Scientific Relations in connection with the change of mutual understanding from the 19th to the 21th century; Evolution of Economic relations from the 19th to the 21th century.

The cities of urban research have long been and still are widely today, the "great cities". But the realities of urban are not limited to them. In France for example the small and medium-sized cities house more than a quarter of the population. What does the observation of these cities bring to knowledge of the urban phenomenon? On the other hand, in the research devoted to major metropoles, it is often very specific neighborhoods that are the subject of attention of research as well as the media: social housing developments or the central gentrified neighborhoods. But more "ordinary" neighbourhoods are not often the focus. What does the observation of these neighbourhoods that we do not talk about "say" about the city? In other words, we would like to call on work that offers openings of the typologies of cities as the typologies of neighbourhoods that are subjacent to the discourse and debates on the urban.

XIVth edition of the International Public Management Symposium
There is a trend for governments to try developping partnerships with the Third Sector (non-profit associations, foundations, social enterprises and cooperatives...) which is being recognized as one of the main economical and social actor. We may quote, as an example, the governmental project of Big Society in the United-Kingdom. This international symposium will gather researchers and practitioners to debate the place of the Third Sector in the process of creating a collaborative Public Service. Many questions will be at stake: How to define the Third Sector? What is the impact of cultural characteritics on its development? How does it imply the participation of civil society to the co-production of Public Services? Is it a "miracle cure" in this time of pressure on the public purse?

After conducting an initial review of the current state of affairs and the issues facing the world of artistic crafts during the international conference held in February 2013 on “Talking about Arts and Crafts”, the aim of these next two days of international conference will be to look at them from an economic perspective. What is the place of artistic crafts in our economy? What are the business models used by crafts companies? What are their target markets? What role does innovation play in crafts? What are the latest developments in crafts production? How can we support the economic development of crafts?

Les relations que nous entretenons avec nos restes constituent-elles désormais des vecteurs de distinctions culturelles et sociales ?

The heritage value of terroir-based economies as model of human development
Promoting territories and terroirs by focusing on their agricultural heritage and/or their traditional agricultural products with high added value represents a constructive response to the threat of standardization and loss of identity. This process also provides a building block for a sustainable development respectful of cultural diversity and of their characteristics. It is for this reason that, nowadays, heritage preservation is fully taken into account in the cultural dimension of development.

History of the Franc Zone seminar
L'université de Rouen inaugure un programme triennal de recherche sur l'Histoire de la zone franc, baptisé HIZOF (Histoire financière internationale de la zone franc). Dans ce cadre, un séminiare est organisé pour favoriser les échanges au sein de la communauté des chercheurs. Il est hébergé alternativement par la Banque de France et le ministère des Finances, à Paris.
