Towards a graphic culture: studying drawing

Drawing seems nowadays to know unprecedented expansion and to invest all domains of the expression and the communication: book industries, cartoons and animation movies, video games, corporate communication… And we indeed face kind of a paradox: widely present, drawing seems almost impossible to define and some philosophers like Jean-Luc Nancy even invite us to accept the "unthinkable" nature of the drawing. The international conference we organize on June 15^th and 16^th of this year in the villa Finaly of Firenze (Italy) does not intend to adopt similar position. Without wishing necessarily to produce a definition of the drawing, we intend to progress towards its understanding.

La journée d'étude se concentre sur les approches méthodologiques liées au croisement entre la mémoire, la mobilité sociale et culturelle et les pratiques artistiques et visuelles contemporaines : questions clés du project de recherche, Bodies across Borders. Oral and Visual Memory in Europe and Beyond (BABE), financé par l’European Research Council et soutenu par l'Institut universitaire Européen de Fiesole (Italie).
