Endowment for transmission? The social and economic history of the Jewish family (15th-19th centuries)

The Role of Think Tanks and Technical Experts in Foreign and Security Policy

This international conference is part of celebrations for the 50th anniversary of Rome's Istituto Affari Internazionali. Taking IAI's role as a starting point, we wish to look more carefully at the think tank model and its role. The IAI case study allows us to illustrate both the culture promoting model and the technical expertise model which plays a direct role in advising and shaping government policy. Starting from the analysis of think tanks, we can broaden our overview to include the role of experts in foreign and security policy in an attempt to pinpoint the common factors and specific characteristics connected with the role of experts.

The Autocephalous Church: an ecclesiastical necessity or political result?

Exercising independence in eastern Slav churches (10th-20th centuries) - Session 1

Cardinals and cardinal-ship, an elite and the challenge of modernity (1775-1978)

Second season: cardinals, between court and curia

    Libya in Transition

Elites, Civil Society, Factionalism and State Reshaping

Today’s Libya symbolizes the complexity of the transformations which have been modifying and reshaping the southern shore of the Mediterranean since 2011. The current Libyan transition, which is characterized by institutional fragility and has its own historical, political, and economic specificities is, however, part of major and wider dynamics of change that are related to more than a single Arabic country. The Conference therefore aims to discuss the process of Libyan transition from comparative perspectives.
