  Voluntary Associations in the Yugoslav Space

  Relations with State and Family from the Late 19th Century to the Present

  The workshop focusses on the changing relationship between voluntary associations/NGOs, the state and the family. According to traditional sociological views, civil society – and thus associations, as its most frequently evoked incarnation – are conceived as being opposed to both the state and the family, a sort of free space for collective agency escaping from the strictures of both kinship structures and of the state. More recently, scholars of civil society have convincingly shown the problems with drawing a clear-cut border between the state and VAs/NGOs, and tend to see this border as porous, shifting, and subject to negotiation.

  Le séminaire « Les Balkans et la Méditerranée : objets communs / regards croisés » vise à interroger la position des Balkans dans les études méditerranéennes à partir d’une double question : en quoi les recherches actuelles sur les Balkans peuvent-elles éclairer d’autres situations méditerranéennes ? et en quoi les études méditerranéennes permettent-elles de renouveler le regard porté sur les Balkans ?

  L’héritage politique de la zadruga dans l’espace sud-slave et les Balkans

  Bien connu et soigneusement étudié dans son aspect folklorique, le phénomène de la zadruga – unité domestique fondée sur la propriété commune des biens, le partage des tâches et les liens du sang chez les Slaves du Sud mais aussi un peu partout dans les Balkans – a également connu un destin politique, qui concerne en premier lieu Croates et Serbes. Déjà présente au Moyen Âge, disparue avec l’avènement du monde moderne, la zadruga, ou bien son souvenir, continue jusqu’à nos jours de constituer chez eux un motif susceptible d’être exploité politiquement.
