  Designing, living in and representing houses in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance between the Loire and the Rhine

  L’architecture et l’espace domestiques sont au cœur du projet « Concevoir, habiter, représenter la maison au Moyen Âge et à la Renaissance entre Loire et Rhin », deuxième volet du colloque « La forme de la maison » prévu les 26 et 27 mai 2016 à Amiens. Ils sont compris dans un sens large incluant différents points de vue sur l’habitat de ses formes les plus sommaires aux plus élaborées, rurales ou urbaines. La « maison », entendue comme une unité à fonction principalement domestique, est privilégiée, ce qui exclut les espaces résidentiels des châteaux et des palais si ce n’est à titre de comparaison.

  Le mot « arborescence », du latin arborescere, arborescentem rend compte, par son suffixe « -escent », d’un procédé en cours. Par son radical « arbor », il renvoie également à l’idée d’un réseau formant une image identifiable, l’arbre, à même d’établir des liens cohérents entre un tout et ses parties. L’arborescence apparaît à la fois comme image et structure imagée.

  Writers as Builders

  Alcuinus and the Carolingian Monumental Poetry – Medieval Ekphrasis, between East and West, Antiquity and Modernity

  The sessions would like to explore the formal connections between the poetic production of medieval writers and the works of art they describe, evoke or invent in these texts. The academic separations of visual studies from the textual ones have been erasing for many years the relationship existing between the two kinds of com-position. From the V^th to the end of the XII^th century, from Paulinus of Nola to Baudri of Bourgueil, a rich corpus of these texts has been composed by some of the most prestigious writers of their time and stages some of the richest works of art from medieval Europe: the wall paintings in St Gall abbey and Mainz cathedral, the Bayeux tapestry, the stained glasses in St Denis basilica…

  Sous-entendre, c'est à la fois dire plus – que ce que le message semble dire – et dire moins – que ce que l'on donne à penser au récepteur du message. C'est donc, en toute logique, donner à entendre sous les signes apparents et non pas surinterpréter, saisir un sens sur ce qui est dit. D'emblée le récepteur est mis au premier rang de l'acte de sous-entendre : c'est bien parce que celui-ci entend que ce qui est « sous-dit » prend corps.

  Les femmes du Moyen Âge au cinéma

  Festival « Bobines et parchemins », l'histoire médiévale au prisme de l'acte cinématographique

  La troisième édition du cycle de projections « Bobines et parchemins » se déroulera du 24 mars au 29 mars 2015 au cinéma Le Desperado. Cette année la thématique mise à l'honneur est celle des femmes au Moyen Âge. Au programme, des films très éclectiques, réalisés entre les années 1960 et 2000 ; des films allemands (La papesse Jeanne de S. Wortmann), suédois (La source d'I. Bergman), japonais (Princesse Mononoké d'H. Miyazaki), américain (Ivanhoé de R. Thorpe) mais aussi français (Passion Béatrice de B. Tavernier par exemple) ; des films d'auteur-e-s (Le procès de Jeanne d'Arc de R. Bresson) mais aussi plus « grand public » (Jeanne d'Arc de L. Besson) et même un court métrage d'animation (Bisclavret d'E. Mercier).

  Heraldry in the Medieval City – The Case of Italy in the European Context

  A visitor passing through Italy is surprised by the abundance of coats of arms that still decorate the palaces and public monuments of its cities. Relatively undisturbed by the tides of history that destroyed a lot of Europe's heraldic heritage, in the Italian cities this heritage is still alive and well. While the development of heraldic signs occasionally caught the eye of historians and art historians, they have never done justice to the multitude and diversity of the existing sources. Recently, however, research has taken an interest in the subject with renewed vigour and approaches, especially in the case of Italy. The aim of this conference is to establish the current state of research and to advance the subject by linking more closely the history of heraldic communication and the history of cities. To do so, the Italian example shall be put into a European perspective.
