  American public diplomacy in the Middle-East

  The inverted pyramid paradigm? Genesis, institutions, strategies and reception

  Politique Américaine, a political science journal published in French on US domestic politics and international strategies launches a call for papers for its special issue on: "American Public Diplomacy in the Middle-East: the inverted pyramid paradigm? Genesis, Institutions, Strategies and Receptions". Next to its impact on governments, public diplomacy is seen as a diplomatic practice aiming at directly or indirectly influencing civil societies. It encompasses all "seductive" strategies that a State implements towards the public opinions of another state or region. The growing importance of this idea highlights the necessity for the main players of international relations to maintain a multi-level dialogue with foreign civil societies in order to anticipate political and social developments initiated by other players than the State itself.

  Discovering the foundations of genre cinema: myths, archetypes, patterns and gestures

  Sous quelles modalités métaphoriques (strates ? Plis ? Palimpsestes ? Phasmes ?) le film de genre révèle-t-il l’apparition d’un semblable sous le différent ? Cette interrogation avait suscité notre première journée d’études (14 novembre 2014 : Dépasser le postmodernisme : la bâtardise comme horizon générique permanent). Loin d’être clôturée, elle appelait une seconde série de questionnements, portant sur la nature des images mêmes auxquelles le cinéma de genre se réfère ; si elle s’identifie au contexte mythique, elle implique l’évidence qu’une matrice pure d’où tout découlerait est impossible. Les mythes, comme les symboles desquels ils participent et dont ils sont une incarnation individuée (et, en cela, le cinéma exprime idéalement ce trait définitoire, lui qui méconnaît les types et n’expose, filmiquement, que des individus), partagent un réseau plus souterrain, dans lequel, sitôt qu’on s’est dégagé de la valeur socioculturelle (le mythe comme reflet d’une civilisation à un moment donné) qu’on veut leur accoler, recherche qui a son intérêt, mais nous semble insuffisante, en ce qu’elle consiste trop souvent à traduire par une équivalence ce qui se lit dans un bouillonnement, on croise plusieurs pistes – archétypes, schèmes, gestes.

  The paradigm of the inverted pyramid? Genesis, institutions, strategies and reception

  Politique Américaine, la revue de référence en langue française consacrée à la vie politique interne et aux stratégies internationales des États-Unis, lance un appel à contribution pour son nouveau numéro thématique : « La diplomatie publique américaine au Moyen-Orient : le paradigme de la pyramide inversée ? Genèse, institutions, stratégies et réception ». La diplomatie publique est envisagée comme toute pratique diplomatique visant à agir directement ou indirectement sur les sociétés civiles et non plus sur les seuls gouvernements. Autrement dit, il s’agit de l’ensemble des efforts de « séduction » qu’un État déploie vis-à-vis des opinions publiques d’un autre État ou d’une région. L’importance récente prise par ce concept, souligne la nécessité pour les principaux acteurs de la vie internationale d’entretenir un dialogue à plusieurs niveaux avec les sociétés civiles étrangères afin d’anticiper les évolutions politiques et sociales initiées par d’autres acteurs que les États.

  Heritage and Ruptures

  10th Annual and International Colloquium of the Society of Activities and Research on the Indian World

  In the postcolonial theoretical framework, the study of heritage and ruptures is a rather familiar paradigm. But it is not a depleted paradigm. Given the millennial history of the Indian subcontinent and the plurality of its culture, the way its languages, literatures and arts appropriate the past, grasp the present and envisage the future remains a relevant object for inquiry. From the crossroads of diachronicity and synchronicity, tradition and modernity, singularity and solidarity, here and elsewhere, repetition and reinvention, the 10^th annual SARI conference to be held on the 28^th and 29^th May 2015 at the Université Paris Ouest Nanterre la Défense and on the 30^th May 2015 at the université Paris 13, Sorbonne Paris Cité, will be devoted to the exploration of this topic from an inter and pluridisciplinary perspective.
