  Drinking and eating in Lorrain from Antiquity to the 21st century

  À travers six sessions thématiques, ce colloque sur l’histoire de l’alimentation en Lorraine propose des éclairages ponctuels et quelques synthèses. Reflets des recherches en cours, ces communications témoignent du spectre thématique très large de ce sujet qui met à contribution l’archéologie, le droit, la géographie, l’histoire et la sociologie. Inscrit dans la diachronie, de l’Antiquité au XXI^e siècle, ce colloque permet d’aborder sur le temps long les dynamiques de ruptures ou de persistances, tant du point de vue des espèces que des espaces cultivés.

  Farming systems’ crises, food insecurity and peasant resistance

  Which ways for an authentic sustainable development?

  The food issue keeps feeding concern and controversy. Rightly since the fate of a large fraction of humankind is at stake: the number of people suffering from hunger has exceeded one billion in 2009, which is intolerable, in spite of its slow current reduction. Nowadays speculating about the population growth is rather outdated, since it is practically admitted that the Earth will reach a maximum of ten billion people in the course of this century. The actual question is how to ensure a decent food supply to all of this population, on account of resources that are indeed globally limited and above all most unequally distributed. The current crisis of farming systems throughout the world is a ransom for centuries of collective irresponsibility.

  Reading workshop in history and rural sociology

  Dans le prolongement des cinq séances organisées l’an dernier (2013-2014), cet atelier de lecture entend poursuivre en 2014-2015 des discussions approfondies portant sur des textes identifiés comme significatifs ou qui font le point sur les évolutions passées et récentes des sciences sociales (histoire et sociologie en particulier, mais aussi anthropologie, science politique, géographie) – tant françaises qu’internationales – appliquées au rural. Il s’agira de continuer à s’interroger – dans la mesure du possible en présence de leurs auteur-e-s – sur l'actualité de ces textes et de réfléchir à la manière dont leurs problématiques, cadres d'analyses et méthodes peuvent être ou non réinvestis et/ou renouvelés dans des travaux de recherche contemporains portant sur la paysannerie, les mondes agricoles et ruraux plus généralement. Chaque séance associera l’intervention d’un-e chercheur-e et la présentation d'un choix de textes, d’articles ou d’extraits, suivie d’une discussion collective.

  The heritage value of terroir-based economies as model of human development

  Promoting territories and terroirs by focusing on their agricultural heritage and/or their traditional agricultural products with high added value represents a constructive response to the threat of standardization and loss of identity. This process also provides a building block for a sustainable development respectful of cultural diversity and of their characteristics. It is for this reason that, nowadays, heritage preservation is fully taken into account in the cultural dimension of development.
