  Environmental changes in historical perspective

  II Meeting of REPORT(H)A - Portuguese Network of Environmental History

  The Center of History of the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon and the Institute of Contemporary History of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the NOVA University of Lisbon, are pleased to be hosting the II meeting of REPORT(H)A - Portuguese Network of Environmental History, in 2017 Spring. The cross cutting conference theme, Environmental Changes in Historical Perspective, is inscribed in transnational and transdisciplinary approaches, a challenge to the current academic research and debate in environmental sciences and humanities.

  The study and design of landscape as a methodological problem

  First Iberian Colloquium on Landscape

  Landscapes present themselves as sceneries we have inherited, where we live, and from where we draw the resources needed to subsist as a civilisation and as a species. The result of our actions on this heritage will be the legacy to our descendants. In the beginning of the third millennium, the interest in the topic of landscape is increasingly important, transforming this discipline in a research platform where several fields of knowledge intersect. The aim of this colloquium is to reflect about the diversity of multidisciplinary aspects, analytical methods, and intervention techniques related to the study of landscape, establishing a forum focused on the future relationship between humanity and landscape.

  The October Revolution

  III International Congress Karl Marx

  The October Revolution of 1917 was one of the most significant events of the modern era. Its historical meaning can be understood, on the one hand, within the narrative of previous revolutions – starting with the 1789 French Revolution – and of the rise of the labour movement in the nineteenth-century. On the other hand, 1917 also paved the way to several other twentieth-century events and phenomena, such as the Chinese Revolution or the post-colonial turn. On its hundredth anniversary, the Institute for Contemporary History organizes an international conference dedicated to the study and discussion of the October Revolution and its consequences.

  Women, Citizenship and Voting Rights

  On the 40^th anniversary of the 1976’s Portuguese Constitution, which granted universal voting rights for the first time, the Institute of Contemporary History will be hosting an international conference to analyse the role of women in the election processes. The conference will be held on 21 and 22 November 2016 at the Assembly of the Republic and it is open to all scientific areas.

  Las mujeres y la militancia política contra las dictaduras de América latina

  Revista «Orda»

  Ese dossier tiene como principal objetivo reunir los trabajos de investigadores de diferentes países, de distintas áreas del conocimiento y de diversos abordajes teóricos y metodológicos para fomentar la discusión sobre cuestiones referidas a la participación política femenina durante las dictaduras de América del Sur. Los trabajos deberán abarcar la temática de mujeres y procesos de militancia, considerando un concepto de militancia que pueda incluir varias actuaciones de categorías sociales de militancia femenina.

  CIDEHUS (Centro Interdisciplinar de História, Culturas e Sociedades) has one book collection with peer-review: Fontes e Inventários that publishes historical sources editing or inventories of archives and other collections. From now on, once a year, CIDEHUS opens a call for book proposals to general academic community and not only to the members of our research center.

  Lost and Transformed Cities: a digital perspective

  The city is by definition a living entity. It translates itself into a collectiveness of individuals who share and act on a material, social and cultural setting. Its history is one of dreams, achievements and loss. As such, it also bears a history of identity. To know the history of cities is to understand our own place in the contemporaneity. The past is always seen through the eyes of the present and can only be understood as such. On the occasion of the 261^st anniversary of the 1755 earthquake in Lisbon, we invite scholars and experts in the fields of heritage studies, digital humanities, history, history of art and information technology to share and debate their experience and knowledge on digital  heritage.
