L’ère de la numérisation induit la présence d’un bon nombre de défis qui surgissent pour l’acceptation de la pluralité, des différences et la gestion de la diversité culturelle, surtout avec le retour de l’ingrédient culturel au champs de l’action politique, dans un contexte marqué par une culture occupant une place indispensable dans le monde de l’après Guerre Froide. La mondialisation a lancé un élan généralisateur d’un nombre considérable de valeurs, pratiques et expressions culturelles, alors que dans beaucoup de pays arabes et occidentaux on cherche refuge dans la singularité et l’identité culturelle. Au delà, les facteurs culturels ont eu leur impact dans l’élaboration des politiques nationales, régionales et internationales.

Decolonizing Americas

Radical Americas Symposium 2016

The theme of this year’s Radical Americas symposium is “Decolonizing Americas”, acknowledging the long arc of struggle for freedom since the period of European colonization of the Western Hemisphere in the 15t^h century. Our collaborative effort will be to consider how histories within the US, Latin America, and the Caribbean converge and depart in relation to the experience of anti-colonial and decolonizing social movements, many of which continue today. We will also consider the ways that cultural efforts, collectives, art, and intellectual projects shape radical imaginaries of freedom.

Sensibilities at the turn of the 21st century

Characteristic of the the first sixteen years of the 21^st Century has been the the emphasis that structuration processes have placed on the connections between emotions, bodies, and society as some of their central axes. At least since the end of the last century, the production, circulation, management, and reproduction of feeling practices have become some of the basic features of education, health care, knowledge production, the mass media, the entertainment industry, sexuality, politics, and the market - just to mention some of the most publicly “visible” ones. It is in this context that we have considered it desirable to bring together researchers and academics dealing with various aspects relating to the topic of sensibilities.

Gegenwärtige Migrationen in der Perspektive des humanistischen Faktors. Der Gedanke von Florian Znaniecki in der heutigen Wissenschaft

1989 gegründete Florian-Znaniecki-Wissenschaftliche Stiftung plant die Herausgabe eines Bandes in der Serie Soziologische Monographien unter dem Arbeitstitel “Contemporary migrations in the humanistic coefficient perspective. Florian Znaniecki’s thought in today’s science”(„Gegenwärtige Migrationen in der Perspektive des humanistischen Faktors. Der Gedanke von Florian Znaniecki in der heutigen Wissenschaft”). In diesem Zusammenhang laden wir ein, die bisher nicht veröffentlichten Originaltexte in englischer Sprache zu versenden, die der Anwendung des Gedankens von Florian Znaniecki in den gegenwärtigen Migrationsforschungen gewidmet sind.

The Centre Walras-Pareto is organizing a workshop on the history of wages. The workshop will take place at the University of Lausanne (Switzerland), 29-30 September 2016. Much has been written on wages within economics. In his classical account of the history ofwage theory, Dunlop (1957) refers to three time-periods: the wage-fund theory domination,the rise of marginal productivity distribution theory, and the “contemporary setting”, startingin the 1930s and characterized by a diversity of theoretical arguments; but much has changed.

We invite to this seminar Biocultural Dimensions of the Everyday life researchers interested in the study of the body, of the human embodiment, of the techniques of the body, of the linkages between bodily action and material culture, of the human/animal co-actions, of the nutrition, of the health, of the bodily education, of the dance, of the sexuality and of other fragments of everyday life that invite to think about the complexity of the human being-in-the-world.

Deutsch-französisch-polnische Sommerschule zum Weimarer Dreieck „Europa von „unten“"

Die „Trilaterale Sommerschule zum Weimarer Dreieck“ in Paris wird sich mit Prozessen auseinandersetzen, mit denen sich Europa gewissermaßen „von unten“ konstituiert. Ausgehend von der vielfach aufgestellten Behauptung einer wachsenden Kluft zwischen einem „Europa von oben“ und der lebensweltlichen Realität der Mehrzahl der europäischen Bevölkerung – einer Kluft, die Entfremdung und Europamüdigkeit nach sich ziehe –, soll zunächst der Frage nachgegangen werden, ob und inwieweit diese These den gesellschaftlichen Entwicklungen in Europa entspricht. Ist der Dualismus zwischen einem technokratisch gesteuerten Europa und den mehr oder minder „tatsächlichen“ Problemen der europäischen Bürger (Lebensplanung, Arbeit, Sozialleistungen, Umwelt, Generationengerechtigkeit, wirtschaftliche Nöte, subjektives Wohlempfinden usw.) aufrechtzuerhalten? Inwiefern lassen sich gesellschaftliche Dynamiken von oben steuern? Worin liegt die gesellschaftliche Eigendynamik und lassen sich gegenwärtige Probleme des Europaprojekts auf eine Spannung oder Kluft zwischen „oben“ und „unten“ zurückleiten? Tragen die wachsende Mobilität und Vernetzung nur zur Verständigung bei, oder werden sie auch als Gefahr oder als Mechanismus der Ausgrenzung wahrgenommen?

Échelles de l'alimentation : une perspective asiatique

The international conference “Scales of the Alimentation: an Asian Perspective” aims at bringing together the French and international scholars of Asia in order to promote a global approach to Asia and to bring together different research institutions based in Europe, therefore to develop the exchanges between different international scholars of Asian societies and experts related to the themes of the food. Our objective is to deliver in-depth analysis and innovative methods arising from research in social and human sciences. We aim to better understand economic, political, institutional, cultural, technological and organizational dynamics of past and present dietary practices in Asia. In particular, we will focus on how the state of food practices and their knowledge is interwoven with other social and technological developments, that are the legacies of expanding and shrinking empires and the mass industrialization.

L’ancienneté, la constance et de l’intensité des échanges culturels entre les deux nations sont en effet largement antérieurs à la mondialisation culturelle ultra-contemporaine. Cette singularité inscrite dans la longue durée permet de mettre en perspective les phénomènes contemporains tout en les interrogeant.

Hoje, mais do que nunca, importa estudar as variáveis territoriais das formações sociais, uma vez que o espaço atua cada vez mais, a várias escalas, como força de integração, mas também de exclusão, segregação e relegação, contribuindo ativamente para a criação e recomposição de injustiças, de diferenças e de desigualdades. O território não é um mero cenário onde se projetam os atores sociais. Dotado de especificidades, resiste ou favorece as dinâmicas sociais, pela mediação das práticas, pela sua historicidade, pela sua configuração própria, influenciando quer a distribuição dos grupos sociais no espaço, quer as tipologias das formas de habitação, quer mesmo o planeamento e o urbanismo.

La production des subjectivités en contexte de gouvernance néolibérale

Neoliberal governance and its structures, and dispositifs, are at the core of contemporary debates in the human sciences. David Harvey (2006) considers neoliberalism a theory that places individual freedom as the final goal of all civilisations. Private property rights, free markets and liberal democracy are the means through which individual freedom is best protected and society flourishes, according to neo-liberal views. The primary role of the state is to enforce property rights, while market forces govern the economy. Neo-liberal ideas have shaped global and national policy for over three decades, introducing the primacy of private property and market rationality in all range of public life from education to healthcare, from land governance to environmental protection. Workers' rights in the global North as well as in the South are devalued in favour of individual responsibility.
