  Retour sur les travaux de Jean-Louis Genard

  Le colloque « Engagement, Réflexivité, Responsabilité, Esthétique : un programme pour les écoles d’architecture ? » est organisé à l'occasion du départ à la retraite du sociologue et philosophe Jean-Louis Genard. Ce colloque entend tout particulièrement partir de quatre concepts explorés par J.-L. Genard afin d’éclairer, ré-évaluer, voire projeter certains défis pédagogiques, intellectuels et citoyens qu'une institution enseignant « l’architecture », celles et ceux qui la composent et qui en sont issus, rencontrent aujourd'hui.

  Relics @ the Lab

  Over the past decade the scientific interest in relics and kindred artefacts has grown enormously. Without any doubt relics as well as relic shrines and associated objects have played a prominent role in European history since the introduction of Christianity. While in the past primary, secondary as well as tertiary relics were merely studied in relation to their religious and (art) historical background, recently the rise of a more scientific and archaeological approach is noticed. Nowadays researchers become more interested in the origin and nature of these sacred objects

  PhD position in Chinese studies and cultural studies

  This project will explore how young Chinese cosplayers engage with the public at large to express new identities in spaces that are heavily regulated by social and political censoring mechanisms. On the one hand, this doctoral research will explore the structural organisation of Chinese cosplay (associations, conventions); on the other hand, it will look into specific bodily performances in public spaces.

  Copies of Flemish masters in the Hispanic world (1500-1700)

  On 9 and 10 February 2017 an international conference will be held on the copies of paintings of Flemish masters during the sixteenth and the seventeenth centuries related to the Hispanic world. The event will take place at the Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage (KIK-IRPA) in Brussels and is organized in collaboration with the Spanish National Research Project COPIMONARCH. La copia pictórica en la Monarquía Hispánica, siglos XVI-XVIII (I+D HAR2014-52061-P) from the Universidad de Granada.

  PhD fellowship for a research project on “Reinventions of modernist rural landscapes”

  Focus: Rural planning in Morocco – 20th century

  MODSCAPES deals with rural landscapes produced by large-scale agricultural development and colonization schemes planned in the 20th century throughout Europe and beyond. Conceived in different political and ideological contexts, such schemes were pivotal to nation-building and state-building policies, and to the modernization of the countryside. They provided a testing ground for the ideas and tools of environmental and social scientists, architects, engineers, planners, landscape architects and artists, which converged around a shared challenge.

  Ce qu’il est coutume d’appeler la révolution numérique (Web 2.0, Digital Humanities, Big Data, édition électronique, etc.) touche un nombre de plus en plus considérable de secteurs de nos sociétés. Parmi ceux-ci, la production et la diffusion du savoir scientifique nous intéressent au premier chef. Cette seconde journée d’étude organisée par ModerNum, réseau des modernistes francophones de Belgique, veut être l’occasion d’une rencontre entre spécialistes des Digital Humanities et jeunes chercheurs autour d’une double interrogation: quel(s) rôle(s) peut jouer la technologie numérique dans notre rapport à la recherche et à la communication de nos résultats ?

  (S') écrire en temps de guerre (Europe, XVe-XVIIe siècle)

  Le présent projet entend aborder le rapport au « fait militaire » – entendu dans un sens large – à travers l’étude de documents naviguant entre l’écriture de soi et l’écriture de l’histoire. En effet, la période envisagée (XV^e-XVII^e siècle) autorise l’historien à s’interroger sur la guerre comme élément du quotidien, comme réalité à laquelle l’individu – peu importe sa position au niveau social – est confronté. Les anciens Pays-Bas burgondo-habsbourgeois sont, par exemple, un laboratoire fertile compte tenu des nombreux conflits qui s’y sont déroulés, des migrations que ceux-ci ont engendrées, des séparations qu’ils ont provoquées. Loin de se limiter à un spectre local, la guerre et le rapport que l’Homme entretient avec, doivent aussi pour l’époque retenue s’envisager dans une optique transnationale.

  La fabrique des fictions d’artistes : écrire avec des images

  L’intérêt croissant des artistes contemporains pour la fiction comme forme discursive se décline selon des registres de plus en plus variés – fictions d’anticipation, autobiographiques, politiques, ethnographiques, documentaires, juridiques, théoriques, pop fictions, etc. – et dans des formats divers, de la nouvelle au roman en passant par le conte ou le scénario. Cette journée d’étude envisage de considérer spécifiquement les fictions, écrites ou oralisées, associées à un dispositif iconique où les images, fixes ou mobiles, projetées ou reproduites, peintes ou dessinées, ont une place de choix dans la construction de l’intrigue, parfois aussi dans sa désintégration. Dans le cadre de cette journée d’étude, il s’agira de centrer les analyses sur la façon dont s’organisent, se configurent les relations entre récits fictionnels et images au cœur même du processus de production de la fiction.

  1st International Workshop

  Scientists of many different disciplines are involved in the study of relics and kindred artefacts, but till now there was no real forum for these people to exchange ideas and discuss methods. Therefore the Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage (KIK-IRPA, Brussels) is organizing a two-day workshop on the scientific study of relics. During this meeting we want to give analytical scientists, textile specialists, conservators, anthropologists, historical researchers, people involved in 3D reconstruction as well as radiocarbon dating specialists a forum to exchange ideas about relics.

  Francis I and the Artists of the North (1545-1547)

  As an extension of the events of 2015 celebrating the 500th anniversary of the accession of Francis I (1 January 1515) and the victory at Marignano (13-14 September 1515), the symposium will focus on the ties between the "grand roy Françoys" and the North. Whereas the exchanges between Francis I and Italy have attracted much attention, the King’s relations with the old Southern Netherlands, as rich and complex, have not been carefully studied. The symposium "Francis I and Artists of the North (1515-1547)" aims to fill this gap by considering the interest of the King of France in artists and musicians from the old Southern Netherlands and their works.

  Défilages : genre et art textile aujourd’hui

  Le colloque multidisciplinaire francophone Défilages proposera une réflexion sur les multiples utilisations artistiques du textile, dans une perspective d’étude de genre. Longtemps confidentiel et considéré comme un « art de dames », l’art textile s’appuie aujourd’hui sur une créativité sans cesse renouvelée et une réflexion aigüe. Devenu le lieu d’un questionnement intersectionnel – utilisé pour revisiter l’histoire, la société, les rapports socio-politiques et les questions de genre – l’art textile offre différentes possibilités que nous interrogerons.
