Operative knowledges of matter, from Renaissance to industrialization
Following the renewal of the history of Technology and of the history of chemistry, this Research Seminar intends to explore operative knowledge in chemistry in connection with several fields including economics, political management, consumption and production processes. It seeks to shed a light, since the Early modern period, on various configurations where experimentation, exploration, transformation of Matter were held, through a wide range of technical devices.

The history of sciences, the history of innovation
Le but du séminaire est de proposer une réflexion approfondie sur l’histoire de la circulation des sciences et des innovations en Europe, ainsi que sur l’histoire des civilisations matérielles que cette circulation transforme. Ce séminaire est adossé aux activités de l’équipe d’histoire des sciences de l’université Pierre et Marie Curie et de l’axe 1 de recherche « L’Europe comme civilisation matérielle : flux, transitions, crises » du LabEx « Écrire une histoire nouvelle de l’Europe ». Si la période susceptible d’être couverte dans les interventions va de la fin du XVIIIe siècle à aujourd’hui, l’accent sera mis sur la période la plus récente.

The history of sciences, the history of text
As in previous years, we will study: How sources bear the mark of the environments in which they were produced. We will ask the question of how the documents attest knowledge. We will be interested in the history of writing by compilation. We will carry out research on the organization that the actors have given to the recorded knowledge, looking at the parts in which they have structured their texts.

The history and philosophy of mathematics
The seminar is the meeting point between different SPHERE (Science, philosophie, histoire) teams that are interested in mathematics. It fosters dialogue between philosophers and historians of mathematics while focusing on textual sources. Speakers are encouraged to make their sources available to the participants.

Seminar - Epistemology and methodology
History and Philosophy of Chemistry
The philosophy of chemistry is a little known reflection domain, expanding, opening up new opportunities for reflection on science and technology, often different and complementary of the perspectives opened by the philosophy of physics, biology and mathematics. This seminar will, in particular, be a place for exchanges between historians, philosophers, chemists, scientists from diverse backgrounds, students and anyone interested in the subject. It aims to promote dialogue between philosophers and historians and give voice to different historical and philosophical approaches in respect of their singularities.

This monthly seminar will aim to invite researchers to come and present their work in progress or recently published that address the “Arab mathematics”, understood in a broad sense to be studied not only mathematics itself, but science “mathematized” of the era, such as astronomy, optics and static; Furthermore, we do not restrict themselves to only written in Arabic mathematics, but we can address their writings in other languages extensions, like Latin, Hebrew and Farsi.

Seminar - Epistemology and methodology
The experience of techniques: collections, reconstructions, knowledge and know-how
This seminar aims to reflect on the place of history of technical knowledge through the study of technical collections in their most concrete aspects (construction, classification, display devices, catering) while incorporating these artifacts to wider prospects, on the role of materiality and gesture in research and in the transmission of knowledge. The central theme of the seminar is the arts of making and sensory experience, designed as a participant of intellection process and the construction of subjectivity, in the past as today.

In the workshop. Material, form and knowledge of artistic work (13th-19th centuries)
En confrontant l’histoire de l’art aux autres sciences sociales et à l’expertise des sciences de la conservation et de la restauration, on interrogera les formes du travail collectif, la construction de la valeur, l’élaboration et la transmission de savoirs et de savoir-faire dans les pratiques artistiques. L’atelier sera ainsi le terrain d’expérimentation pour une archéologie matérielle, visuelle et intellectuelle de l’art. Le séminaire proposera des études de cas, menées à partir de travaux en cours, qui seront mises en perspective tout au long d’une enquête historiographique sur la notion d’atelier et les conditions de l’innovation, entre arts et savoirs.

Nature's workshop. The production of material knowledge and the material production of knowledge.
La journée d'études internationale « L’atelier de la nature. Production des savoirs matériels, production matérielle des savoirs » vise à penser les relations entre l’expérience in situ en plein air, telle qu’elle a été construite par une variété d’acteurs (savants, voyageurs, peintres, habitants) en la mettant en relation avec le travail dans « l’atelier » pris au sens large de lieu de travail, dans lequel la nature peut être transformée (laboratoires), recréée (peintres), classifiée (savoirs antiquaires et collectionneurs).

Fecit ex natura - the profession of medical illustrator, 16th-20th centuries
L’illustration médicale a attiré de nombreux collectionneurs et institutions en raison de son intérêt scientifique comme pour ses qualités formelles. Certaines de ces œuvres ont été abondamment diffusées et commentées. À ce jour, les métiers de cette imagerie spécialisée, ainsi que les relations entre praticiens et artistes ont pourtant peu intéressé la recherche.

Milieu: environment and habitat
Depuis que la biologie lamarckienne a postulé l’influence des milieux de vie pour l’évolution des espèces zoologiques et que le positivisme a repris cette notion pour en faire une charnière entre le biologique et le social, elle a trouvé nombre d’applications dans les domaines les plus disparates – de la technologie à la biologie, de l’ethnologie aux sciences politiques, jusqu’à l’esthétique et aux théories de la communication. À l’heure actuelle, il manque par contre un nom commun capable de montrer le fil rouge et la solidarité parmi ces perspectives, leur unité synthétique. Le présent colloque entend justement repérer ce fil rouge et lui donner le nom de « milieu ».

A number of examples can be mentioned here: Various cures with or without medicines; Animal behavior: animal reproduction, molting, (or sloughing, shedding, ecdysis), metamorphosis, adaptation; Strange phenomena, or strange beings (aliens) described by travelers, or people one can trust; The attraction of body to another body, repulsion of body, the weights and the measures.

Depuis, la recherche s’est révélée féconde. Dans un cadre national et international, elle se lie aux développements de tout le champ, de l’histoire naturelle à l’histoire des sciences de l’Homme, dont l’anthropologie et la préhistoire, et met en valeur les ressources archivistiques et patrimoniales du Muséum.

Le rendez-vous mensuel du Centre Alexandre Koyré, « les débats du CAK », sont de retour pour cette rentrée. Ils se déroulent un mercredi par mois, de 10h à 12h, au Centre Alexandre Koyré. La formule de ces rendez-vous est très simple. À l'occasion de la sortie récente d'un ouvrage d'histoire des sciences et des techniques (au sens large), nous invitons son auteur(e) à débattre avec deux discutants privilégiés, ainsi qu'avec l'ensemble de l'auditoire. Ces échanges sont systématiquement suivis d'un moment convivial autour d'un buffet.

History and Philosophy of Physics (2016/2017)
The seminar is designed as a place of exchange between historians of physics, philosophers of physics, physicists and students in relevant disciplines. Although the program this year has no specific theme, it reflects the interest of the organizers for the questions that drive us to cross disciplinary boundaries: between physics and philosophy, history and philosophy, between theoretical construction and experience, between physics and other sciences.
