  The forms of houses - in the Middle Ages and Renaissance between the Loire and Meuse

  Au Moyen Âge et à la Renaissance entre Loire et Meuse

  Porté par l’équipe de recherche TrAme de l’UPJV, ce colloque interroge les « formes de la maison » dans leurs aspects matériels et symboliques, avec un regard transdisciplinaire. Ces deux journées d’étude, après un premier volet consacré à l’Antiquité en novembre 2015, proposent un parcours jalonné de découvertes récentes dans l’architecture domestique des provinces du nord de la France, du XII^e au XVII^e siècle. Maison de ville et maison des champs ; structures et décors ; visions des contemporains et regards des générations actuelles : la diversité des questionnements qui nourrissent cette manifestation témoigne du dynamisme d’une recherche sur une région longtemps délaissée. En plus des communications et d’une visite de maisons d’Amiens, des historiens et archéologues y présenteront sous forme de posters les résultats de plusieurs opérations récentes.

  Summer School - History

  The "Face" of First World War Battlefields and Battles

  The centenary in 2016 of the two iconic battles of the First World War – Verdun and the Somme – leads us to reconsider battles and battlefields in the historiography of the First World War. Since John Keegan’s pioneering Face of Battle (1976), generations of historians have expanded our understanding of the experience of combat, as well as our knowledge of the literary and artistic representations of the battlefield. The way we think about the legacy of battles in the memory of the First World War around the world, too, has changed. Our week in Verdun and Péronne will not only give us time to reflect on the current state of research on the battles of the First World War and discover the most recent advancements in battlefield archeology and environmental history of warfare, but also confront these readings with on-the-ground visits to the sites studied.
