  Boèce throughout the ages: the reception of his work and influence on European literature from the Middle ages to the present day

  Grâce au concours de spécialistes venus de plusieurs horizons des sciences humaines, le colloque « Boèce au fil du temps » (Reims-Valence) se proposera de mettre en lumière des aspects méconnus, ou partiellement explorés de l’œuvre de ce grand classique de l’Antiquité, figure exemplaire de l’éclectisme scientifique, qui contribua par son œuvre à l’universalisation des savoirs. Les intervenants prêteront une attention particulière à la manière dont le legs culturel et scientifique de Boèce est reçu par des auteurs européens dans leurs propres productions, pour le faire fructifier selon les sensibilités, les inquiétudes et les aspirations propres à chaque contexte et à chaque époque.

  Boethius revisited

  The reception of his works and his influence on European literature from the Middle-Ages to the present time

  With the contribution of specialists in several branches of humanities, our purpose is to bring to light some neglected or partially studied aspects of this great classical thinker and exemplary figure of scientific eclecticism, who played a great part in the universalization of knowledge. We will pay special attention to the way in which Boethius’ scientific and cultural legacy was included in the works of other European authors, and was renewed according to the feelings, anxieties and aspirations particular to every age and historical context.
