    Short forms

    Definitions and guidelines

The definition of the short form is not a simple task. Brevity is not to be confused with shortness, even if the two are interconnected. It is a specific form, that can emerge from an aesthetics of open endedness and closure, and can arise from discontinuity, but not always. It can, when associated with other short forms, be inscribed in a longer structure, or be connected to the notion of a series etc. The question of the relationship to the ephemeral, to concision, expressiveness, constraints, or even formatting, would also be addressed.  The diversity of disciplinary approaches, in the context of this workshop, will allow us to, of not construct a definition, at least allow for the determination of its contours.
