  European integration - myths and limits

  Europe philosophy chair

  Le cycle de conférences mensuelles vise à approfondir un thème spécifique, en invitant des chercheurs à exposer leur interprétation et soumettant celle-ci à la discussion approfondie d’un public informé et intéressé. « Intégration européennes : mythes et limites », tel est le titre du grand séminaire de 2016-2017. Chaque séance sera consacrée à la discussion d’un texte, en présence de deux intervenants : un chercheur affirmé présentera l’un de ces travaux, et un doctorant, post-doctorant ou jeune docteur commentera et lancera le débat avec le public. L’entrée à l’ensemble des activités est libre et gratuite - chercheurs, étudiants et intéressés à l’Europe sont tous les bienvenus de se joindre au débat.

  New energies to forage at sea, deeper drillings further and further from the coast, increasingly bigger ships, these are the challenges that man must overcome to accomplish “blue growth”. There are economic opportunities to grab, but also new risks concerning safety and security, and marine environmental protection. These new challenges will be at the heart of the 5th edition of the Human Sea – Marisk symposium, a major event bringing together the best international experts and taking into account the latest scientific and technological advances in the maritime and port sector.

  Alors que la notion de neutralité est pensée et pratiquée à l’origine par les Européens pour eux mêmes, la colonisation, les indépendances américaines et, plus largement, l’émergence d’acteurs non-européens élargissent la perspective dans laquelle elle doit être envisagée à partir du XVIII^e siècle. L’objet de ce colloque est de s’interroger, sur la longue période, sur la manière dont la neutralité élaborée à l’échelle de l’Europe a pu être appliquée, adaptée ou contredite dans des espaces lointains et par des acteurs non-européens.

  Respect in law

  Respecter ce n’est pas seulement observer la règle, obéir à la norme ; c'est aussi traiter avec égards et considération, les choses, les personnes, ou un environnement. Il semble nécessaire de s’interroger sur l'émergence d'un droit au respect ou, plus encore, l’existence d’une autonomie de la notion de respect en droit. Le respect fait-il l’objet d’un droit, de droits, de sanctions ? Et la réponse varie-t-elle selon les branches du droit ? Répondre à ces interrogations ne sera cependant possible qu’une fois déterminées la place et la force normative du respect en droit.

  Theological Foundations of Modern Constitutional Theory: 16th-17th Centuries

  Fondements théologiques de la théorie constitutionnelle moderne : XVIe-XVIIe siècles

  This conference aims to assemble different studies laying bridges between modern constitutional theories and theology from the perspective of intellectual history. Though modernity of law and politics has been usually accounted in the context of Reformation, the paper-givers’ approaches to the question will not be restricted in any confessional perspective, Protestant or Catholic. For, whatever the word ‘theology’ may have connoted in the time of religious confrontations, theoretical attempts to legitimize human rights and political authority at those days can be regarded as part of the general current of philosophical investigations, in a new manner and with different foci than ever, into the concept of justice with reference to that of God.
