    Real estate - interdisciplinary perspectives

During the last few decades the spectacular growth of global demand for natural resources has considerably increased the pressure on land access and management across the world. From mobilisations against fracking in the USA and Europe to opposition to mining and oil extraction in Latin America, Asia and Africa, divers contexts attest to an increase of social-environmental conflicts as a consequence of current modes of soil and subsoil use. Land provides a base for different regimes of property and patterns of use, as well as for rural and urban social structures. Evolutions and major changes in land use have stemmed legal debates such as those concerning big estates, agrarian reforms or the adoption of extractive economic strategies. While the former involve the issue of soil property, the latter question sovereignty over the subsoil. The issue of land is central to understanding socio-economical and political processes and therefore constitutes a privileged perspective of analysis for current global trends.

    Mountain regions, territories of innovation

Mid-way through an extensive multidisciplinary research programme, Innovation and Mountain Territories (LabEx ITEM) seeks to explore and debate its questionings, and to open its fields of study and its topics to a theoretical and empirical confrontation. Indeed, beyond merely having knowledge about the dynamics of these unique sites, at issue is understanding what they tell us about the spatial aspect of change processes. What does the future hold for mountain regions, bearing in mind that they are first in line faced with changes in climate and in the relationships between societies and nature? New opportunities are opening up in the midst of today's diversity of aspirations and the resource crisis. Transitions, alternatives, reproduction, normalisation, marginalisation: these multiple paths cannot merely be reduced to crisis philosophies or trivialisation.

Mountain pursuits under Vichy - law and policy

    Looking for territories?

The first two CIST conferences – Founding Territorial Sciences, in 2011, and Frontiers and Boundaries of Territorial Sciences, in 2014– addressed a number of theoretical and practical issues in the territorial sciences. This third edition, to be held in 2016 in Cité de territoires (Grenoble, France), will continue this tradition by examining the expectations of citizens, inhabitants, and public and private bodies with respect to territories. It will offer, in a twofold event, 80 acadelic presentations parallel to debates and discussions with stakeholders involved in territories.
