Public and Civic Discourse, Culture and Communication Perspectives
Ce numéro de Essachess examine les perspectives rhétoriques et/ou culturelles critiques sur la paix, la non-violence et le rôle du discours civique dans la société contemporaine. Il vise à couvrir le savoir scientifique qui se concentre principalement sur les 30 dernières années, y compris la période historique d’après 1989, qui a créé une démocratisation du discours à travers le monde, encore plus engagé dans la paix et les conflits dans les perspectives paradigmatiques sur la migration, le terrorisme, le communisme et le changement politique et social.

Digitization of Heritage Librarian Funds: Our Necessity and Obligation
Digitalizacija baštinskih knjižničarskih fondova: naša nužnost i obveza
A collaboration with the Institute for the Culture of Vojvodina Croats and the Saint Michael’s Franciscan Monastery in Subotica during the months of July and August of 2015 has resulted in a practicum for the senior students of the University Interdisciplinary Graduate Study Program in Librarianship. The students have opened a gateway to one of the richest heritage librarian funds, and the four weeks of their life with the books and socialization in a multicultural and multiethnic city, which is twinned with their hometown of Osijek, have produced valuable experiences, as well as a successfully initiated and professional processing of library materials. Established are the possibilities for an acquaintance with the valuable (monumental) library collections and the acquisition of a hands-on librarian habituation subsequent to a theoretical universitarian instruction, whereby a pathway has been paved for the next generations to become a part of this unique cultural initiative. By virtue of the prospective assets allocated by this international project, it could be possible to devise a follow-up to this endeavor. Thus, in addition to an academic knowledge, the students would repeatedly have an opportunity to be practically involved in the conservation, processing, and valorization of the heritage librarian funds.

CIDEHUS (Centro Interdisciplinar de História, Culturas e Sociedades) has one book collection with peer-review: Fontes e Inventários that publishes historical sources editing or inventories of archives and other collections. From now on, once a year, CIDEHUS opens a call for book proposals to general academic community and not only to the members of our research center.

Sustainable access to digital cultural and scientific heritage: Thesauri and Authority Records
The workshop is about sustainable access to digital cultural and scientific heritage. A normative database of names and the importance of normative control will be the subjects of Ana Kne?evi? Cerovski's presentation, who is the editor of the normative base of the National and University Library in Zagreb. As an introduction to the topic and the issue of creating a thesaurus, M. Sc. Irena Kolbas, senior curator and head of the library of the Ethnographic Museum will present the problem of terminology for a specific area of ethnology and cultural anthropology.

Qualitative research for the beQuali platform
La banque d’enquêtes qualitatives en sciences sociales (beQuali) est un outil à vocation nationale développé au sein du Centre de données socio-politiques (CDSP). beQuali propose, sous réserve d’autorisation, un accès à des matériaux d’enquêtes de sciences sociales menées à partir de méthodes qualitatives (observations, entretiens, focus groups, etc.) et à une documentation restituant le contexte de leur production. beQuali lance du 1er juin au 18 septembre 2016 un appel à propositions d'enquêtes, ouvert aux chercheurs, aux professionnels de l'information scientifique et technique et aux institutions ayant produit ou conservant des enquêtes qualitatives en sciences sociales. Il vise à recueillir des propositions d'enquêtes en vue de leur dépôt sur beQuali.fr.

Comparative approaches to health technologies
L’un des principaux objectifs de ce colloque est d’interroger la façon dont les représentations et les imaginaires sociaux de la santé se réfléchissent dans les technologies contemporaines, ou encore, comment ces technologies modifient en retour l’idée que nous nous faisons de la santé, en créant par exemple de nouvelles attentes. La diversité des champs d’application et des solutions technologiques (des capteurs et de la domotique aux objets communicants en passant par les big data, la médecine personnalisée, les applications sur mobiles, la réalité virtuelle ou la robotique médicale) invite ainsi à réfléchir aux représentations sociales qui les soutiennent et les orientent, le plus souvent implicitement.

Doctoral fellowships at the cluster of excellence (LabEx) "Pasts in the Present"
The cluster of excellence (Labex) Pasts in the Present: History, Heritage, Memory, will award three (3) doctoral fellowships, in July 2016, for dissertations undertaken at one of the graduate programs of the University of Paris West Nanterre La Defense. The Pasts in the Present: History, Heritage, Memory cluster of excellence is concerned with the presence of the past in contemporary society. The cluster of excellence seeks to understand mediations of history in the digital age, politics of memory, social appropriations of the past up - and downstream from heritage policies. The reflection is interdisciplinary and organised in two fundamental themes. The first, “Connections to the Past: Representations and Assessments,” seeks a global analysis of representations of the past from every epoch (from prehistory to the present). The second, “Active Knowledge of the Past: Practices and Tools of Transmission,” is based on documentary and archival resources and collections conserved by the cluster’s different partners.

L'accord-cadre Culture-CNRS 2016-2020
Le ministère de la Culture et de la Communication (MCC) et le Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS) développent une politique scientifique partagée sur des thématiques communes faisant appel à de multiples domaines de la science, avec une forte prise en compte de l’interdisciplinarité. Ainsi, sciences humaines et sociales, chimie, physique, mathématiques, écologie, géologie ou sciences du numérique contribuent au dynamisme de la recherche dans les domaines du patrimoine, de la création, des médias et des industries culturelles. Cette politique est formalisée depuis 1992 par un accord-cadre, régulièrement renouvelé.

Mobilities and digital (r)evolutions
Au-delà de la portabilité ou mobilité croissante des technologies de l’information et de la communication (TIC), objets connectés et dispositifs numériques de toutes sortes se diffusent dans le quotidien des individus : la multiplication dans les média spécialisés ou non de références à l’e-mobilité, au robomobile, à la ville 2.0, à l’überisation, à la géolocalisation, etc. en témoigne. Intrinsèquement, la récurrence de ces mots clés révèle une association croissante entre les technologies de(s) transports et technologies numériques. Les liens et interdépendances entre mobilités et TIC sont potentiellement multiples et laissent place à de nombreuses interrogations. Ces dernières ne sont pas nouvelles en soi et dépassent largement le cadre des déplacements. Néanmoins, elles ne se limitent plus à des débats entre substitution ou complémentarité et sont éminemment plus complexes.

Spécialiste de la théorie et des méthodes computationnelles en archéologie, il donnera quatre conférences sur ces sujets au cours de son séjour.

SW4SH 2016: Second International Workshop
Classicists and historians are interested in developing textual databases, in order to gather and explore large amounts of primary source materials. For a long time, they mainly focused on text digitization and markup. They only recently decided to try to explore the possibility of transferring some analytical processes they previously thought incompatible with automation to knowledge engineering systems, thus taking advantage of the growing set of tools and techniques based on the languages and standards of the semantic Web, such as linked data, ontologies, and automated reasoning. SW4SH 2016 aims to provide a leading international and interdisciplinary forum for disseminating the latest research in the field of Semantic Web for the preservation and exploitation of our scientific heritage, the study of the history of ideas and their transmission.

The Ovahimba years, contemporary multimedia ethnography
Call for researchers at the Bibliothèque nationale de France (2016-2017)
Ethnographe, cinéaste et photographe, élève de Jean Rouch, Rina Sherman a vécu entre 1997 et 2004 au sein d’une communauté ovahimba d’Afrique australe (Namibie et Angola). Lors de son séjour, elle a filmé, photographié et écrit sur la vie quotidienne et rituelle des Ovahimba et d’autres communautés dites de langue otjiherero. De cette étude, elle a rapporté des centaines d’heures de vidéo et de sons et des milliers de photographies, ainsi que des notes et des dessins, qu’elle a donnés à la BnF en 2014.

Data encoding entails an analog-to-digital conversion in which the characteristics of an object, text, or archaeological site can be represented in a specialized format for computer handling. Once encoded, data can be stored, sorted, and analyzed through a variety of computer-based techniques ranging from specialized data-mining algorithms to user-friendly mobile apps. Especially when encoded data is open-source, researchers around the world can collaborate on the collection, encoding, and analysis of data.
