History Review of the technical modernity in France (the twentieth century to the present)

Critical thinking of modernity has never been more relevant. She also has a history, especially since the late eighteenth century. Its players may have been either movements (1810 Luddites to the Surrealists in the late 1950s, and other movements today) or relatively isolated thinkers, and more involved in writing (sometimes the pamphlet) than in transformative political action. The proposed program focuses on this second category, most misunderstood, but also addresses the first category – in both cases over a period extending from the early twentieth century to today. It puts them into perspective with some excitement speeches of the dominant technical modernity that often they criticize, especially in the period of the 1930s and that of the years 1960-1980.

Structuralism and its return journeys

Il y a exactement un demi-siècle, très précisément pendant la semaine du 18 au 21 octobre 1966, se tenait à l’Université Johns Hopkins de Baltimore un colloque organisé par E. Donato, R. Girard, R. Macksey et intitulé « The Languages of Criticism and the Sciences of Man ». Il s’agissait de faire connaître au public américain le « structuralisme ». Cinquante ans plus tard, nous reviendrons sur certains des vrais enjeux historiques de ce colloque qui, plus que tout autre, nous confronte à l’importance et à l’ambiguïté de l’événement structuraliste pour toute la pensée française contemporaine. Nous nous interrogerons aussi tant sur l’actualité de ce qui s’est joué alors que sur ce qui, aujourd’hui, tient lieu de cet échange transatlantique et/ou serait susceptible de faire évènement de manière comparable.

The history and philosophy of psychiatry in the 20th century - Franco-German perspectives

La journée d’étude que nous proposons a pour but de réunir des jeunes chercheurs, doctorants et post-doctorants, autour du thème de la circulation des savoirs relevant du champ de la psychiatrie entre la France et les pays germanophones – RFA, RDA, Suisse alémanique et Autriche – tout au long du XX^e siècle. La pluralité à la fois disciplinaire et méthodologique constituent le fil conducteur qui lie entre eux les participants de nationalités différentes (France, Allemagne, Italie, Autriche, Suisse). Les chercheurs impliqués dans cette initiative présentent en effet des projets de recherche qui – tout en partageant un intérêt à la fois historique et épistémologique pour la psychiatrie – se situent à la frontière entre histoire des sciences, philosophie et anthropologie.

Form und Leben. Morphologie als Paradigma zwischen Philosophie und Wissenschaft

Tagung des DFG-Netzwerks “Morphologie als Paradigma” in Zusammenarbeit mit dem ZfL Berlin

Die Tagung eröffnet die Forschung zum Begriff der Morphologie im Rahmen des DFG-Netzwerks »Morphologie als Paradigma«. Im Horizont der namensgebenden These werden hier zur ersten Orientierung kultur- und naturphilosophische sowie poetologische und lebenswissenschaftliche Verwendungen von morphologischen Modellen ins Gespräch gebracht. Dabei soll zum einen der Modellfunktion der Morphologie bei Ernst Cassirer, zum anderen der Frage nach Parallelen bis in die moderne funktionsbiologische Disziplin Raum gegeben werden. Letztlich steht damit in kritischer Auseinandersetzung auch zur Debatte, ob hier möglicherweise ein Ansatzpunkt zur Redefinition der Aufgaben und Methoden der Kulturphilosophie liegt.

SW4SH 2016: Second International Workshop

Classicists and historians are interested in developing textual databases, in order to gather and explore large amounts of primary source materials. For a long time, they mainly focused on text digitization and markup. They only recently decided to try to explore the possibility of transferring some analytical processes they previously thought incompatible with automation to knowledge engineering systems, thus taking advantage of the growing set of tools and techniques based on the languages and standards of the semantic Web, such as linked data, ontologies, and automated reasoning. SW4SH 2016 aims to provide a leading international and interdisciplinary forum for disseminating the latest research in the field of Semantic Web for the preservation and exploitation of our scientific heritage, the study of the history of ideas and their transmission.

Dans le cadre de la III^e journée d'études doctorales l'équipe SAPRAT (Savoirs et pratiques du Moyen Âge au XIX^e siècle), nous nous proposons d'étudier les « Circulations des savoirs et des pratiques du Moyen Âge au XIX^e siècle », un thème qui pose la question des supports de ces circulations, des interactions qu'elles génèrent (appropriation, rejet, échange) et des réseaux de diffusion des savoirs. Cette journée devra permettre aux doctorants de l'équipe SAPRAT d'exposer un volet de leurs recherches en lien avec la thématique proposée.

Eros plays a central role in Western thought. In the philosophical and spiritual traditions, it usually refers to physical love and desire. Eros is a recurring character in the pre-Socratic cosmogonies, and it is the main impulse of the philosophical quest for truth in Plato’s Phaedrus. This Special Topics issue of PhænEx wishes to give a new impulse to philosophical reflections on this fundamental and ambiguous phenomenon, following an interdisciplinary perspective at the intersection of phenomenology, post-structuralism, and social sciences (psychology, sociology, sexology, anthropology, linguistics, etc.).
