Call for papers - Political studies
CoSPoF-SQSP conference 2017
Depuis les années 2000, la montée en puissance des pays émergents a modifié les rapports de force au sein du système de gouvernance économique mondiale. Dans un monde de plus en plus multipolaire, les politiques extérieures des principaux pays émergents visent davantage à légitimer leur statut de puissances régionales qu’à promouvoir un multilatéralisme véritablement démocratique. Dans ce contexte d’évolution des rapports de force internationaux, cet atelier pose la question de l’impact de la montée en puissance des pays émergents sur la gouvernance économique et les régulations commerciales et financières internationales.

“Compressed modernity” and Chinese temporalities

Chinese social science is largely ignored in the Western world, precisely at a time in which scientific knowledge travels along new epistemological lines within a globalized context. The Western way of thinking is opening up to the Chinese way, though, and new horizons appear as it becomes impossible, in a context of cultural globalization, to ignore continental China. In this issue of Temporalités, we will analyse, in China, the societal realities produced by, and with, Chinese temporalities related to a “compartmentalized compressed modernity”.

The development of art history as a discipline during the 19th century has been variously associated with the politics of national identity, the needs of a growing bourgeois public in search of cultural capital, or of an expanding art market. However, the role of art training, and art practitioners themselves in the shaping of the discipline remains unexamined. Courses in art history had been systematically introduced in the curricula of art and architecture academies since the late 18th century, and spaces of art education count among the first institutional homes of the discipline, well before the establishment of autonomous university chairs. This conference aims to explore the interactions and productive tensions between art practice and art scholarship in the 19th century.

This international conference will explore Japanese academic practices towards Ancient Korea (history, archaeology, heritage protection policies), while also considering the precedent established by French archaeological practices in colonial Cambodia and the case of continental China.

Dès l’ouverture de Meiji, à la fin du XIXe siècle, la formation des musiciens japonais a été soumise aux contraintes culturelles et politiques des pays occidentaux. Tenu de choisir entre l’enseignement européen, dominé principalement par les écoles germaniques et françaises, ou l’enseignement influencé par les États-Unis d’Amérique, le musicien japonais a parfois dû se former au péril de sa propre identité culturelle. Pour autant, les artistes japonais semblent avoir préservé l’ontologie de leur musique tout en ayant assimilé certaines caractéristiques des cultures occidentales.

The Smaller European Powers and China in the Cold War, 1949-1989
This international conference aims to examine the policies of the smaller European powers towards China – and vice versa – during the Cold War. Thereby it focuses, on the European side, on both Western and Eastern Europe – regardless of whether a country was part of the NATO or the Warsaw Pact. Meanwhile, on the Chinese side, the conference proposes to include both Chinas, namely the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and the Republic of China (RoC). While this should allow for the analysis of different relational constellations, the chronological framework – that ranges from the Communist victory in China in 1949 to the fall of the Berlin Wall and the Tiananmen Square uprising in 1989 – should enable us to identify policy shifts and patterns.

Depuis une décennie, de nombreuses publications ont exploré les formes de mobilité et les stratégies des acteurs économiques – entrepreneurs, commerçants chinois et africains – qui contribuent à orienter les relations d'interdépendance entre la Chine et l'Afrique. Nous proposerons ici une autre perspective, en mettant au centre de l'analyse les multiples formes d'articulations du politique, de l'économique et des stratégies de catégories sociales qui semblent émerger avec le développement des relations entre la Chine et les pays africains.

Ebisu – Études japonaises
Suite au colloque Ombres et lumières de la pensée japonaise d’après-guerre qui s’est tenu à la Maison franco-japonaise, la rédaction d’Ebisu lance un appel à contributions pour son prochain numéro thématique qui portera sur le rôle et les engagements des intellectuels dans le Japon des années 1945-1960. Ce numéro se propose de faire le point sur la pensée de cette première génération d’intellectuels de l’après-guerre. Qui sont-ils ? Quelle fut leur cheminement pendant et après la guerre ? Quels furent leurs objets de réflexion ? Leurs espaces d’expression ? Leur outillage mental ? Comment leur pensée négocia-t-elle avec le réel ? Quels furent leurs points aveugles et comment ceux-ci ont-ils été comblés par les générations suivantes ?
