On the outskirts of the capital - feminist and homosexual movements in regions

L’objectif de cette journée d’étude est de réunir historien.ne.s et sociologues afin de souligner dans une double perspective disciplinaire, toute la diversité de ces mouvements et de leurs militant.e.s en faisant travailler le jeu des échelles régionale et nationale. De la sorte, nous souhaitons effectuer des comparaisons entre espaces de contestation. Il convient également d’examiner les liens, les transferts de représentations et de valeurs puis les logiques d’entraînement et d’imitation. Surtout, il s’agit également d’interroger les liens – d’alliances, de rejets - historiques qui existent entre les mouvements féministes et homosexuels.

Student movements and (post-)colonial emancipations

Transnational itineraries, dialogues and programmes

This one-day conference investigates the role of student movements in individual and collective emancipations, from the struggle for colonial liberation to the challenges posed by contemporary globalisation. This conference seeks to bring these various approaches together, in order to discuss the transnational and connected history of student engagements in colonial liberations and the critical reflection on the multilateral management of conflicts in the postcolonial period. It will investigate internal and external tensions, and the reorganisation of these movements in relation to pacifism, revolutionary struggle, conflict prevention and peace making.

Ce séminaire aura lieu à raison d'environ une séance mensuelle durant l'année universitaire 2016-2017. Italian political parties’ attitudes, roles, points of view, and reactions vis-à-vis stragismo, subversive plots, right-wing and left-wing terrorism will be under scrutiny, together with their impact on society and institutions. The Organizing Committee encourages studies that also examine minor political parties.The Organizing Committee invites scholars of different disciplines interested in the topic topropose papers on Italian political parties’ attitudes, roles, points of view, and reactions in front of:- stragismo and subversive plots against Italian Republic; origin, development, and social consensus of left-wing armed struggle; the main political changes of the period (e.g., the crisis of center-left governments, the 1974 referendum, the 1975 and 1976 elections, the governments of national solidarity, the end of the Christian-democratic centrality); the dangers of right-wing terrorism; the emergency legislation; the exit strategies from terrorism.

Le Centre régional francophone de recherches avancées en sciences sociales (CEREFREA Villa Noël) se propose, à travers l’axe « Francophonie et droits humains », d’ajouter une dimension de recherche complémentaire aux différents autres aspects – institutionnels, sociaux et informels – qui constituent la sphère d’action de la francophonie en matière de droits de l’Homme. Dans ce but, le centre s’appuie sur l’expertise de la recherche dans le domaine de l’éducation de l’université Lyon 2, ainsi que sur l’expérience du programme universitaire de master « Politiques de l’égalité des chances en Roumanie et en l’Union Européenne » de la faculté de sciences politiques de l’université de Bucarest, rattaché au master européen E.G.A.L.E.S., piloté par Lyon 2. À cela s’ajoute l’expérience du centre féministe FILIA dans le domaine de l’éducation non-formelle, centre basé à Bucarest.

Le nouveau camp construit à Calais par les pouvoirs publics pour progressivement éradiquer la tristement célèbre « jungle » était censé améliorer sensiblement les conditions de vie des migrants vivant ou errant dans les alentours. Cependant, de nombreux récits viennent rappeler que la plupart des habitations temporaires du nouveau camp n’ont pas d’accès à l’eau, et sont concentrées dans un espace délimité par des barbelés qui soulignent une frontière urbaine. À sa manière, ce camp témoigne d’un processus, celui de l’émergence d’une forme de ville indigne, marquée par l’insalubrité, l’exclusion, les problèmes d’hygiène et une faible considération pour les conditions de vie des habitants. Pour son numéro 8, la revue Urbanités a décidé de s’intéresser à la question de la ville indigne dans le contexte qui semblait le plus incongru à sa réapparition ou à son expansion, le contexte européen.

Rock and Violence in Europe (1950's-1980's)

This event is the first of two conferences, the second of which will take place in 2019 under the sponsorship of the History department at California State University, Long Beach. The first component, at Rouen, concentrates on Europe, while the second part, on the same theme, will focus on the situation in the Americas. The purpose of these two events is to gain an understanding of the place of rock in contemporary culture and to define its significance and impact in our societies. From this starting point, the conferences will also endeavor to consider the part of legend that encompasses the myth of rock music. The association between rock and violence, however fantastical and artificially constructed, is a given which has penetrated the music's history during the second part of the twentieth century; in some ways, the recent dramatic events at the Bataclan have highlighted this in an extremely tragic manner.

In the aftermath of world war two, the Left gradually became suspicious of references to the nation, traditionally associated with rightwing ideologies. Yet in a time of identity debates and persistent collective attachment to nations, patriotism, sovereignty and nationalism are also increasingly used as political arguments.

Terrain, borders and the meaning of culture and politics

Cette journée d’études interrogera les interactions entre l’Amérique latine et l’Europe. Il s’agira d’une tentative de confronter le flux des idées et des échanges culturels promus par les événements politiques des deux côtés de l’Atlantique. La journée se structurera en deux axes. D'une part, sera abordée la question des identités politiques en focalisant l'attention sur les transferts d'idées comme forme de construction des sémantiques politiques. De l'autre, seront analysées et débattues les différentes formes de gestion, coopération et diffusion des biens culturels, notamment à partir des influences et des échanges culturels entre l'Amérique latine et l'Europe.

Within Europe, a relatively indeterminate contours’ space, efforts to integrate and to bound the people and the political systems have yielded tangible results in political, economic, social and cultural matters. The objectives were consensual, such as to ensure lasting peace, economic growth and global security, as well as the freedom to act, to undertake and to think. Yet some may think that the integration has been made too hastily – especially to the east, creating new differentiations: East/West, adding to an older North/South. This analytical prism however is reducing because it largely ignores internal disparities in most national territories.
