Comparative approaches to identity-based protest in the context of "crisis"
Workshop of the Congrès annuel de la Société québécoise de science politique 2017
Cet atelier souhaite se pencher sur les mobilisations identitaires en contexte de « crise ». Il cherche à réunir des contributions s’intéressant à différentes régions et mouvements sociopolitiques, et mobilisant les littératures anglophone et francophone de la sociologie des mouvements sociaux, des littératures du contentious politics, de la violence politique et des études critiques de sécurité. Il privilégiera les communications appuyées sur une recherche empirique originale, que cette dernière présente une ou des études de cas ou une comparaison. L’atelier cherche à produire un dialogue constructif, en dressant des ponts entre les différentes littératures, et invite à tenter de débattre et d’explorer d’éventuelles hybridités théoriques.

Thursdays at the Institut historique allemand
Avec son cycle de conférences des « jeudis », l’Institut historique allemand (IHA) propose des sujets de l’actualité internationale en sciences humaines et sociales. Chaque conférence est suivie d’un commentaire et d’un débat afin de faire ressortir les spécificités théoriques et méthodologiques des différentes traditions historiographiques. Les sujets traités représentent donc des questions fondamentales de l’historiographie ainsi que des axes de la recherche actuelle à l’IHA, dont l’histoire intellectuelle, sociale et culturelle de la politique. L’IHA invite les chercheurs venant de tous horizons à participer à ce forum d’échanges où les controverses et les discussions scientifiques concourent à enrichir la pensée et les connaissances.

Alors que la notion de résistance, parfois déclinée au pluriel, fleurit dans les travaux des chercheurs en sciences humaines, elle n’a pas encore fait l’objet d’une véritable attention de la part des médiévistes, hormis dans quelques travaux consacrés aux soulèvements populaires (dans la lignée de l'ouvrage pionnier de M. Mollat et Ph. Wolff, Ongles bleus, Jacques et Ciompi). En outre, elle a surtout été étudiée à travers le prisme particulier de la révolte armée. Pourtant, la résistance constitue un champ d’étude qui permet à la fois d’appréhender les actions, les discours et les représentations des hommes du Moyen Âge.

Memories and histories of the present in Spain and Latin America (2016-2017)

Nous centrerons notre réflexion sur le « retour de l’événement » tel qu’il apparaît à travers certaines commémorations (comme les bicentenaires des révolutions d’Indépendance de l’Amérique latine) ou au détour de certains faits marquants de ces dernières décennies. Les populismes, nationalismes et autres mouvements d’idées et pratiques politiques seront abordés à travers le prisme des reconfigurations historiographiques de type académique, mais également des résurgences de l’histoire officielle et des révisionnismes. Les multiples formes du conflit politique, des mouvements sociaux du XXe siècle aux répercussions des grands événements mondiaux seront analysées à l’aune des imaginaires sociaux.

Armed conflicts in Latin America in the 19th century
Le symposium propose une approche des conflits armés (révolutions, guerres civiles, soulèvements, révoltes, émeutes, « pronunciamientos ») en Amérique latine / Amérique Ibérique pendant le processus de construction et de consolidation de l’État, depuis la période qui a suivi les indépendances et jusqu’au début du XXe siècle. Il s’intéresse à la circulation d’acteurs, de pratiques et de concepts politiques dans le cadre des espaces transnationaux, tout en prenant de la distance face à une histoire strictement « nationale », politique et militaire.

Italian political parties’ attitudes, roles, points of view, and reactions vis-à-vis stragismo, subversive plots, right-wing and left-wing terrorism will be under scrutiny, together with their impact on society and institutions. The Organizing Committee encourages studies that also examine minor political parties.The Organizing Committee invites scholars of different disciplines interested in the topic topropose papers on Italian political parties’ attitudes, roles, points of view, and reactions in front of:- stragismo and subversive plots against Italian Republic; origin, development, and social consensus of left-wing armed struggle; the main political changes of the period (e.g., the crisis of center-left governments, the 1974 referendum, the 1975 and 1976 elections, the governments of national solidarity, the end of the Christian-democratic centrality); the dangers of right-wing terrorism; the emergency legislation; the exit strategies from terrorism.

Political radicalisation and armed struggle - conceptions of righteousness in the armed struggle
3rd international workshop of the Political radicalisation and armed struggle (JISA) research program
cet atelier est consacré aux conceptions du juste qui sous-tendent la dénonciation des états sociaux, formulée par les participants aux luttes armées. L’accent portera sur la manière dont les groupes engagés dans lutte armée et leurs participants justifient l’utilisation de la violence, au nom de leurs conceptions de la justice. L’atelier visera, d’une part, à souligner les raisons politiques et éthiques de l’engagement, au sein de l’action collective, et, d’autre part, à analyser l’élaboration des justifications du conflit armé, au nom de la réalisation de ces conceptions du juste, conceptions qui peuvent être défendues au nom de la revendication d’un idéal démocratique. Quel idéal de justice les participants aux luttes armées véhiculent-ils ? Comment justifient-ils le conflit dans une quête souvent menée au nom d’un idéal démocratique ? Comment ces idéaux et ces exigences éthiques s’actualisent-ils dans l’évolution historique et le combat de ces groupes ?

Rock and Violence in Europe (1950's-1980's)
This event is the first of two conferences, the second of which will take place in 2019 under the sponsorship of the History department at California State University, Long Beach. The first component, at Rouen, concentrates on Europe, while the second part, on the same theme, will focus on the situation in the Americas. The purpose of these two events is to gain an understanding of the place of rock in contemporary culture and to define its significance and impact in our societies. From this starting point, the conferences will also endeavor to consider the part of legend that encompasses the myth of rock music. The association between rock and violence, however fantastical and artificially constructed, is a given which has penetrated the music's history during the second part of the twentieth century; in some ways, the recent dramatic events at the Bataclan have highlighted this in an extremely tragic manner.

Discourse, ceremonies and practices in and beyond the Iberic Monarchies
In recent years historiography has been slowly acknowledging the potential of civil societies to restore concord after profound divisions. It also has uncovered the pacification strategies of authorities to reconcile and reincorporate individuals and social groups after periods of contestation and revolt. These complex processes are crucial to better understand the history of the Iberic monarchies, which have been able to develop a long-term government despite many crises of different origin and outlook. Hence, this conference will be focused on the themes of reconciliation and reincorporation from following four perspectives: Words, discourses and emotions (semantics and sentiments), Negotiating reconciliation (promotors and strategies), Making reconciliation work (agents and mediators, processes and forms), In the margin of reconciliations (the undecided and excluded)

The Allied Occupation of Germany Revisited
New Research on the Western Zones of Occupation, 1945-1949
The Allied occupation of Western Germany after the Second World War has long constituted a classic component in academic histories of post-war Germany. After having been the subject of sustained scholarly attention in the 1970s and 1980s, the subject has subsequently faced a decline in academic interest. This two-day conference is intended to showcase new research and provide a forum for the presentation of innovative approaches to the history of the three western zones of occupation. It also aims to stimulate dialogue between historians of the different zones of occupation and so bring together hitherto almost entirely segregated historiographies. We are inviting papers from both emerging scholars and established specialists.

Geoeconomical and geopolitical approaches
For several years, the world seems to have entered a period of high instability. Economically, the "subprime mortgage crisis" appeared in 2007 in the USA, then spread planet wide in all areas of activity. In 2015, economic difficulties persist (growth stagnation in developed countries and lower growth in emerging markets, explosion of unemployment, deindustrialisation and offshoring, market tensions in China, the euro zone, etc.). In geopolitical terms, tension spots have also multiplied (Saharian and Sahelian Africa, Middle East, Far East and Eastern Europe) leading to strong migratory waves while power poles seem to be redeploying between the USA, China and other regional powers.The aim of the conference "Contemporary Crisis and changes" is to question these contemporary upheavals through both a geo-economic and a geopolitical reading. The conference will provide elements of analysis and compare them especially with contemporary representations of globalisation emphasizing in particular the logic of closure that seems to characterize this phenomenon.
