Individual and Collective Identities in New France
In collaboration with Simon Fraser University and several religious orders who played a founding role in the history of Montreal, the Collectif d’Anthropologie et d’Histoire du Spirituel sous l’Ancien Régime (CAHSA) organizes an interdisciplinary conference on the interaction between individual and collective spiritualities in New France. The conference will take place in Montreal from October 13th-15th, 2016.

Le 150e anniversaire de la Confédération constitue un moment opportun de réfléchir à la portée, au sens, aux succès et aux problèmes de notre régime politique. Certains en feront l’éloge, d’autres, le procès ; quoiqu’on en dise, le rapport du Canada à la dualité nationale, une philosophie développée surtout par des penseurs canadiens-français pour dépeindre le Canada comme un « pacte entre deux peuples fondateurs », mérite une réflexion sérieuse. Ce colloque vise à faire le point sur l’idée de dualité autant dans les débats intellectuels que dans ses représentations institutionnelles. Il s’adresse aux historiens, aux politologues, aux sociologues, aux juristes et à tous ceux et celles qui étudient le Canada dans son rapport à la dualité.

Defining Canada, 1867-2017: values, practices and representations
Association française d’études canadiennes Congress 2017
This conference intents to favor the historical perspective of the longue durée, by examining not only what defines Canada in 2017, but by comparing this with the way it was defined in 1867, at the time of Confederation, as well as in 1967, at the time of the centennial. To do so, the conference will be organized around three guiding lines that correspond to the values, the practices and the representations through which Canada is defined.

The ethos and identities of the Francophone writer
Ce colloque vise à mettre à l'honneur l'analyse du discours littéraire (ADL), et plus spécifiquement celle du discours littéraire « francophone ». Il s’agit de convoquer des textes littéraires et de proposer des corpus intéressant à la fois les études littéraires et les sciences du langage. Puisque l'ADL s'est focalisée sur les scénographies et les ethê auctoriaux (Maingueneau, Amossy, Delormas, Diaz, etc.), ce colloque propose de cerner la notion d’« écrivain(s) francophone(s) », sous le prisme méthodologique de l'analyse du discours, à partir des productions littéraires d’auteurs écrivant en langue française (romans, nouvelles, essais, théâtre, poésie, journaux intimes, lettres, etc.).

The success of cultural life in the 21st century: policies, interventions and initiatives
Le paysage culturel, tant québécois que français, s’est beaucoup transformé au cours des dernières décennies. Intitulé Essor de la vie culturelle au XXIe siècle : politiques, interventions et initiatives, ce colloque franco-québécois est né de constats dressés au sujet des effets et des retombées générées par les politiques culturelles qui ont été adoptées depuis les vingt-cinq dernières années, tant en France qu’au Québec ; constats qui sont parfois contradictoires sur la portée de celles-ci et qui traduisent les tensions sociales, ainsi que des mutations socioculturelles, politiques, économiques qui traversent la société.

Call for papers - Representation
This 2016 workshop on contemporary US-UK photography will take on the notion of censorship. With photography as its starting point, this edition aims to extend the debate to include the contemporary image on the whole. It is interested in the intermedial forays of other artistic forms in the practice of photographers (art installations, video and/or audio productions, performance, urban art practices, text/image interactions). How does the very artistic form/medium become in itself a means of expression and commitment when confronted with censorship, a means to create unity against censorship, a tool for identity expression of a group or of a minority, to circumvent constraints, or thrive upon these limits and generate creative impetus from them?
