Student movements and (post-)colonial emancipations
Transnational itineraries, dialogues and programmes
This one-day conference investigates the role of student movements in individual and collective emancipations, from the struggle for colonial liberation to the challenges posed by contemporary globalisation. This conference seeks to bring these various approaches together, in order to discuss the transnational and connected history of student engagements in colonial liberations and the critical reflection on the multilateral management of conflicts in the postcolonial period. It will investigate internal and external tensions, and the reorganisation of these movements in relation to pacifism, revolutionary struggle, conflict prevention and peace making.

Political communication and diplomacy in the Late Middle Ages
This meeting wants to carry out a state of the art on the history of medieval diplomacy, a topic on methodological renewal process. For this, it will focus on aspects such as new historiographical tendencies the wide range of sources available (literature, archives, letters...), sociology of the protagonists (clergy, nobility, lawyers, merchants...) and the different political contexts of medieval diplomacy (papacy, kingdoms, cities...).

Relating to the activities of the Observatoire de la vie politique régionale (Ovpr) and the Observatoire des élites suisses (Obelis)
Dans le cadre d’un projet financé par le Fonds national suisse de la recherche scientifique intitulé Urban Transformations and Local Political Elites: A Comparative Study among four Swiss Cities, l’Institut d'études politiques, historiques et internationales (IEPHI) de l'Université de Lausanne met au concours deux postes de doctorant·e FNS. Partie intégrante des activités de l’Observatoire de la vie politique régionale (Ovpr) et de l’Observatoire des élites suisses (Obelis), ce projet permettra aux doctorant·e·s d’être intégré·e·s dans un vaste réseau de recherche national et international.

The tragic attacks in Paris on 7 January and 13 November 2015 have engendered vivid debates about national identity and national culture in France, and accelerated the promotion of patriotism by the socialist government. At the European level, whereas the death of nations has been predicted along with the triumph of globalisation, nations and nationalism make a spectacular come back in public debates, and put most European left-wing parties in an embarrassing position.

Migrations and migrants at the heart of political acts
La thématique de l’université d’Eté porte sur les « Migrations et migrants au cœur du faire politique ». Encadrée par un comité scientifique composé de membres du Réseau Migrations et animée par des chercheurs spécialistes des phénomènes migratoires, cette semaine de réflexion articulera des ateliers de travail par axes de recherche ciblés pour les doctorant·e·s retenu·e·s, des conférences plénières, des tables-rondes avec des acteurs de la société civile ouvertes au public et des sorties de découverte du milieu local pour les participants. Pour candidater, le ou la doctorant·e doit mener une recherche qui s’inscrit partiellement ou totalement dans un ou plusieurs des axes de l’argumentaire proposé.

The Left and Nationalism in Europe

At the European level, whereas the death of nations has been predicted along with the triumph of globalisation, nations and nationalism make a spectacular come back in public debates, and put most European left-wing parties in an embarrassing position. In the aftermath of world war two, the Left gradually became suspicious of references to the nation, traditionally associated with rightwing ideologies. Yet in a time of identity debates and persistent collective attachment to nations, patriotism, sovereignty and nationalism are also increasingly used as political arguments.

Talking about “Arabs”. Echoes from different Europes
The immigration emergency, the Cologne attacks and other reports on the Arab populations in Europe generate commentaries across the continent. The concentration of unwelcoming attitudes towards Middle Eastern newcomers in Central and Eastern Europe is seen by some as the evidence of “a split of mentalities” between the “old Europe” and its ex-communist states. There is a need, however, to complexify these dichotomies by looking into how concretely knowledge on the Middle East is produced in different European countries. The Oriental Institute in Prague is organizing a workshop on this issue, seeking to investigate the nexus between three different fields of knowledge production and diffusion in today’s Europe: media, academic and policy-making.

Ce colloque ambitionne de déterminer s’il existe, dans le domaine parlementaire, une spécificité méditerranéenne. Ces journées aborderont la culture et l’identité parlementaire méditerranéenne à travers le regard comparatiste et selon les angles de la prosopographie des élites politiques, de l’analyse des « moments » parlementaires majeurs et des études de cas régionales, dans le but d’aboutir à une cartographie des acteurs, des pratiques, des discours et des représentations. L’objectif est de réunir des spécialistes de différents domaines (historiens, civilisationnistes, historiens du droit, politologues, sociologues…).

Europe: another nation? (19th-20th centuries)
Ce colloque est le second organisé dans le cadre du programme « Les nations et l’Europe : deux mémoires en parallèle », développé dans le cadre du labex Les passés dans le présent. Il a pour objectif l’analyse des relations entre le sentiment national et l’idée européenne depuis la fin du XVIIIe siècle. L'enjeu est de comprendre comment se sont construites par étapes, une mémoire des nations et une mémoire de l’Europe, comment se sont différenciées, au sein même des nations et de l’Europe, des mémoires des régions et d’analyser l’évolution des rapports de force entre ces mémoires sur la scène politique.

Ce séminaire présente et discute des travaux consacrés à la socialisation et à l’éducation des enfants qui, soumis à l'instruction obligatoire, ne sont pas scolarisés. Il porte en particulier sur les trajectoires biographiques, les pratiques pédagogiques, les relations familiales et les modalités d’encadrement public de la non scolarisation.
