European cities and the post-crisis context : social and policy innovations
Since the crisis, cities have not only been “the context” but also “collective actors” with particular strengths, weaknesses, and resources to deploy. The aim of this international workshop is to elaborate a common reflection on the future of EU cities by focusing on institutional innovation, via new tools and mechanisms for policy making which have been developed by cities in order to cope with the consequences of the crisis (new forms of inequality, housing shortage, gentrification and displacement, new difficulties for the delivery of public services…).

The Visual History Archive, Research Experience
Founded by the film director Steven Spielberg in 1994, the Visual History Archive is a collection of testimonies recorded in order to preserve the words, faces, gestures and histories of genocide survivors. Digitized and indexed to the minute (with more than 62 000 keywords), the Visual History Archive is now reachable in full access in 66 universities and libraries in 14 countries. In France, it is fully accessible at the George and Irina Schaeffer Center for the Study of Genocide, Human Rights and Conflict Prevention of the American University of Paris and at the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Lyon. Now more than ever, scholars can search the Visual History Archive for research on the Second World War or on the other crimes of mass violence which have been more recently appended to the collection. The aim of this journée d’étude is to gather scholars from different disciplines who have carried out research on or with the Visual History Archive. Participants will have the opportunity to share their research results and experiences.

The European electricity market and national energy policies
This workshop has the ambition to put together a group of researchers in political science, economic sociology and institutional economics who are interested in these interactions between the wholesale market and energy policies. The scientific challenge is to understand how our political, economic and legal institutions are supporting these frictions and are attempting to articulate these policies, and how articulations rely on economic expertise, political negotiation, legal interpretation, etc.

Development policies, space and violence in Latin America: an interdisciplinary discussion
The main objective of this workshop is to bring together researchers working from different disciplines (anthropology, sociology, political science, geography) on the spatial impact of development policies applied under authoritarian regimes in Latin America. Although the “spatial turn” is already well-established in the Social and Human Sciences, the appropriation and adaptation of this theoretical frame remains scarcely explored to reflect on State(s) violence(s). Moreover, the analysis of the spatial impact of development policies carried out in a "forced" manner in the period of dictatorships in Latin America remains also barely analysed.

Populism in Central and Eastern Europe in the 20th Century
Since the 1990s, several political movements qualified as “populist” have emerged in Central and Eastern Europe, drawing the attention of political scientists. If we want to understand why these movements exercise such attraction and why they are so relentless in this space, it is necessary to cross the study of current politics with the analysis of long term developments. Indeed, since the 19th century, Central and Eastern Europe has known several movements and political parties that have called themselves or have been labelled as “populist”. In this sense, the long-term approach allows considering the similarities and the differences, according to different contexts and periods, and identifying the reasons and the mechanisms of action of these movements. At last, this historical approach helps to consider the specificity - if there is any specificity - of these movements in Central and Eastern Europe and to evaluate their impact on political cultures of the region.

Jornada de estudio - Pensamiento
The Greek word for a fault or error is hamartia; this same word, when it appears in Greek translations of the Hebrew Bible and in the New Testament, is commonly rendered as “sin.” If there were no word like sin or péché or Sünde or peccato in modern languages, with the religious connotation these terms have acquired, could we identify a special sense of hamartia (or the Latin peccatum) in the Bible on the basis of context alone? This colloquium will address the question of when and how error and wrongdoing acquired the specific sense of sin commonly associated with the Judaeo-Christian tradition – if indeed there was a change. Under examination will be attitudes toward wrongdoing in ancient cults, ideas of pollution, conceptions of God or gods, and more.
