  En prévision du bicentenaire de la naissance de John Ruskin en 2019, ce colloque permettra de rassembler, de présenter et d'échanger de nouvelles approches de la part de jeunes chercheurs à propos du travail de John Ruskin, à la fois critique d'art, théoricien, historien d'art, artiste et commentateur du XIX^e siècle avec une attention particulière sur son travail concernant l'art et l'architecture compris pour constituer le noyau central des engagements de Ruskin en terme de société et d'expérience.

  Palfreys and rounceys, hackneys and packhorses, warhorses and coursers, not to mention the mysterious “dung mare” – they were all part of everyday life in the Middle Ages. Every cleric and monk, no matter how immersed in his devotional routine and books he would be, every nun, no matter how reclusive her life, every peasant, no matter how poor his household, would have some experience of horses. To the medieval people, horses were as habitual as cars in the modern times. Besides, there was the daily co-existence with horses to which many representatives of the gentry and nobility – both male and female – were exposed, which far exceeds the experience of most amateur riders today.

  Papier, ondes, écrans : du texte au public dans la culture populaire africaine

  This conference aims to reflect on the critical spaces of reading and listening that occur in and around popular cultural texts in Africa – from songs, magazines, romance fiction, and hip-hop lyrics, to blogs, facebook posts, and urban inscriptions. Drawing on the methods of cultural studies, material print cultures, and the sociology of reception, we seek to engage with the critical vocabulary generated by those spaces of reception at a time of transition for the book object and the reading practices which accompany it. How can this material be researched (archives, interviews, ethnographic observation, digitisation, databases)? How is/might it be integrated into teaching across disciplines?
