Feminists and their archives (1968-2018)
Militantism, memory and research
The fiftieth anniversary of May and June 1968 will be the occasion for numerous commemorations of the event, but also more generally on the "1968 years", bounded, according to Philippe Artières and Michelle Zancarini-Fournel by the two dates of 1962 and 1981. During that period, feminist movements in France and other occidental countries experienced a renewal through activism, intense cultural production and high visibility in the public sphere and the media. To write the history of such feminist mobilizations and to question their posterity, one needs to engage with the issue of archives, written and oral, private as well as institutional, collective as well as individual, preserved or destroyed. This symposium aims to initiate a wide-ranging reflection on the constitution, conservation and use of feminist archives and to promote an interdisciplinary and international dialogue.

The Black Metropolis, between past and future
Race, urban planning and African-American culture in Chicago
The colloquium will celebrate the centenary of the “Great Migration” and explore the social and cultural life of Chicago South Side and West Side from the end of the Thirties, which were marked by the cultural zenith of Bronzeville neighborhood and a series of measures for the Black community inspired by the New Deal, to the present, which is characterized by numerous private and public initiatives in favor of an urban renewal. This international and multidisciplinary colloquium seeks to reevaluate the contribution of the South Side and the West Side to the definition and evolution of the African-American identity from the beginning of the XXth Century until the contemporary moment.

The history and historiography of the Shoah
Le séminaire est conçu comme un lieu de discussion et d’échange visant à familiariser aux tendances les plus récentes de l’historiographie sur la politique nazie de persécution et d’extermination des juifs. Chaque séance sera consacrée à un ouvrage récent présenté par son auteur, dans un exposé en français ou en anglais. Il sera porté attention aussi bien à l’histoire des bourreaux qu’à celle des victimes et l’on essaiera de privilégier les ouvrages les plus originaux en termes de méthode ou d’objet. L’enjeu, de fait, est triple : les faits, certes, mais aussi les voies de leur connaissance et le fil de leur récit.

Transnational and global history
L’objectif de ce séminaire collectif est de fédérer les recherches au sein de l’IHMC, alors que l’histoire transnationale et globale constitue un véritable axe structurant des recherches qui y sont menées ces dernières années, mais aussi d’offrir à la communauté des chercheurs parisiens intéressés par les questions, les méthodes et les enjeux de cette manière de concevoir et pratiquer l’histoire un lieu de discussions, d’échanges et de travail autour de recherches récentes.

Borders, circulation, daily life and illegality (1939-1945)
L’historiographie de la seconde guerre mondiale s’est largement focalisée, depuis 1945, sur les particularismes nationaux et les perspectives régionales et nationales. Ces études mettent en lumière l’histoire ou la micro-histoire d’une société, plus ou moins étendue géographiquement, confrontée à l’irruption de la guerre souvent suivie par celle de la botte nazie. L'objectif de ce colloque est, à l'inverse d'explorer la perspective transnationale en prenant pour objet central les dynamiques liées à la proximité d’une frontière et des espaces transfrontaliers durant la seconde guerre mondiale.

The history of art in the field of the humanities and social sciences
Interdisciplinary dialogue around the political and ideological issues of the manufacture of discourse
Cette journée d'étude, qui s'adresse à de jeunes chercheurs, portera sur l'histoire de l'art à la croisée des disciplines depuis le début des années 2000 (histoire sociale ou culturelle, anthropologie, sociologie, etc.). L'objectif est d’appréhender la dimension politique inhérente aux discours historiques actuels, que cet aspect soit explicité ou non par les chercheurs ou les commissaires d’expositions. Il ne s’agira pas de plaquer ou de reproduire le discours politique de l’« engagement » sur les sciences humaines, ni de « dévoiler » les tendances politiques de la recherche actuelle. Bien davantage, nous souhaitons discuter, autour d’études de cas précises sur des publications, des expositions de ces dernières années, de la nécessité – ou non – pour chacun de formuler une réflexion critique sur sa propre pratique scientifique.

Le phénomène des fraternisations en temps de guerre englobe des réalités diverses traditionnellement divisées en deux champs de recherche : les fraternisations entre soldats ennemis au front et les fraternisations entre les combattants et la population civile à l’arrière. Ces dernières ont notamment été étudiées par le biais des fraternisations dans les zones occupées, comme par exemple les rapprochements entre des soldats allemands et des femmes françaises lors de l’Occupation allemande en France de 1940 à 1944. Alors que ces fraternisations de l’intérieur ont été au cœur de nombreuses recherches depuis les années 1980, celles du front ont, quant à elles, été quelque peu délaissées par le champ de la recherche historique.

First international seminar for post-graduate students in Sport History
A first international seminar for PHD and post-graduate students in sport history (political and cultural perspectives) supervised by Prof. Dave Day (Manchester Metropolitan University) and Prof. J.-F. Loudcher (Bordeaux) is planned at Bordeaux between the 11th September and the 13th September 2017. It is the first of a series of seminars between the two universities (the next will be in Manchester) and will provides an opportunity to establish new relationsships and partnerships with students ands researchers from all over the world. In addition, this one will have a workshop on European project research funding on cultural and political sport coaching in a comparative way for an application in 2018. It is possible to just attend the seminar and the workshop.

Le colloque se propose de croiser et comparer les voyages étrangers dans les États autoritaires et totalitaires de l'Europe de l'entre-deux guerres afin de mieux cerner les modalités du voyage et les enjeux politiques, diplomatiques et intellectuels d'une telle entreprise. Devant la multiplication des travaux sur la thématique du voyage, à la fois sur le champ chronologique et sur le champ spatial, le colloque a vocation à offrir une vision globale et une dimension internationale à un thème de recherche jusque-là cantonné à des préoccupations nationales. Ainsi, cet appel à contribution s'adresse aux chercheuses et chercheurs désireux d'approfondir et de renouveler le genre de l'histoire du voyage à travers une entrée comparée.

Theme issue of the journal Études arméniennes contemporaines (EAC n° 8 – Decembre 2017)
The history of the large-scale massacres committed against the Armenians under the reign of Sultan Abdülhamid II, in 1894-1896, is still largely unknown, its sources underutilized or not studied at all. This period of extreme violence, a watershed in the political and social history of the Ottoman Empire, raises many questions about the similarities and differences with the genocidal process of 1915-1916. We invite submissions on a broad range of topics and disciplinary approaches for this special issue. Relevant studies may include chronological analyses of the events of the 1890s themselves, as well as analyses of the consequences of that era of violence up to the present day. At the heart of this issue lies the question of the precedent: what links can be established between the genocide and the mass crimes that preceded it – an issue relevant to the study of other twentieth-century genocides.

The history of military operations - sources, subjects, methods
Ce colloque aura donc une double ambition : contribuer à doter l’histoire des opérations militaires d’un fondement épistémologique qui lui a souvent fait défaut ; examiner comment, ainsi consolidée, elle peut répondre aux attentes de l’institution militaire dans la diversité de ses déclinaisons. Les opérations seront appréhendées dans une longue durée remontant à l’Antiquité et allant jusqu’au temps présent. Trois thèmes principaux seront explorés : les sources, les objets, les méthodes.
